POSITION SUMMARYThe Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a strategic partner to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and leadership team of the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank (NWAFB), responsible for the financial health and sustainability of the organization. The CFO oversees all financial operations, while also providing leadership for Human Resources and Information Technology functions. This role ensures strong internal controls, efficient systems, and people-centered policies that support the mission of the food bank.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Leadership & Strategy- Lead long-term financial planning, forecasting, and scenario modeling.
- Advise CEO and Board on financial strategy, risk management, and sustainability.
- Develop and monitor the annual budget in alignment with organizational priorities.
- Present financial reports and insights to the Board of Directors.
- Completes finance portion of the Quarterly Poundage Report (QPR) and manages overall process of completing the annual Network Activity Report (NAR).
- Lead the modernization of financial systems and processes by leveraging technology, automation, and process redesign to enhance efficiency, scalability, accuracy, and decision-making capabilities.
- Lead in the consistent adherence to well-designed internal controls and financial risk management practices that promote stewardship and proactively protect the organization’s financial and reputational assets.
- Oversee accounting, general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and monthly close.
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP) and grant requirements.
- Manage audits, tax filings (e.g., 990), and regulatory reporting.
- Maintain strong internal controls and financial policies.
- Monitor all banking activities.
- Oversee HR strategy, policies, and compliance (employment law, benefits, etc.)
- Support recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and retention efforts.
- Ensure equitable and competitive compensation and benefits practices.
- Promote a positive, inclusive workplace culture.
- Oversee IT infrastructure, systems, and vendor relationships.
- Ensure data security, integrity, and business continuity.
- Support technology solutions for operations, logistics, and data reporting.
- Partner with program teams to improve systems that support food distribution and impact tracking.
- Serve as a member of the senior leadership team.
- Contribute to strategic planning and organizational decision-making.
- Support cross-functional collaboration across departments.
- Align financial, HR, and IT systems with mission-driven goals.
- Manages Data & Impact Analyst while ensuring all data collected is secure, relevant and accessible to leadership to support ongoing decision-making.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field.
- 7–10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience.
- Experience managing teams and multiple functional areas (finance required; HR/IT preferred).
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting and compliance.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- CPA or MBA.
- Experience in a nonprofit, food bank, or human services organization.
- Familiarity with grant management and government funding.
- Experience overseeing HR and/or IT functions.
- Experience in a complex organization relative to size and scope of the NWAFB from a financial and operational perspective.
- Experience in inventory-intensive organization a plus.
- Extensive experience with cash flow management and analysis.
- Experience presenting to and providing critical financial information to executive teams and Board of Directors
- Passion for the mission and values of the organization, as demonstrated by prior work and/or volunteer experience.
- A collaborative, motivational, supportive and visionary leader.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and work on various projects simultaneously, requiring strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong technical skills with the ability to utilize various technologies and learn new technology quickly.
- Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Working knowledge of Ceres and Jet Reports a plus.
The position will be responsible for managing and supervising multiple NWAFB team members. Additionally, the role will interact daily with coworkers, customers, vendors, and the public.

WORKING CONDITIONSDuties are regularly performed in an indoor/office setting. The environment is usually a well-lit, environmentally controlled indoor environment with a moderate level of noise. This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work hours may vary depending on the market area being served at any given time; evening and weekend work may occasionally be required. Local travel is an essential function of the role.

The Northwest Arkansas Food Bank was founded in 1988 as a 501(c)(3) non profit organization to serve four Northwest Arkansas counties by providing an affordable and credible food source to our partner agencies serving the hungry.
In 1988 June Self was approached by Green Thumb, a Federal program to place senior citizens into nonprofit organizations.
From 1988-1989 June Self researched how to start, operate, and fund a food bank.
In 1989 June Self opened the first Ozark Food Bank on Township Road in Rogers, AR.
Within three years, the Ozark Food Bank outgrew the Township location and moved to a two-story building on Second Street in Rogers, AR.
In 1993 the 12,000-square-foot building in Bethel Heights, AR was constructed.
Board of Directors included representatives from Tyson, Walmart, JB Hunt, P&G, and other Vendors, Churches, and agencies.
June Self and her husband picked up food donations from as far as Tulsa to serve NWA. June was the Food Bank Director for 14 years before retiring in 2003.
In 2007 the Ozark Food Bank changed its name to the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank.
In 2011 the NWA Food Bank built an expansion wing onto the original building bringing our total square footage to 22,000 square feet.
In 1989 the total pounds of food distributed was 89,000 pounds and in 2013 the total pounds distributed was 6.7 million.
In 2014 the NWA Food Bank hit the 180 agency mark in Benton, Carroll, Madison and Washington Counties.
The Northwest Arkansas Food Bank distributed more than 8.2 million pounds of food and 6.9 million meals in 2015.
