Overview:

The WFM Solution Architect provides end-to-end solution architecture for Workforce Management capabilities across the HR Digital Platform, including Workday Time & Absence, labor scheduling, payroll integrations, and downstream systems. The role is the single point of architectural accountability for WFM, ensuring solutions are scalable, compliant, and aligned with enterprise architecture and governance standards in a highly regulated U.S. environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Solution architecture (Workday + Integrations): Own end-to-end WFM architecture across Workday and integrated systems; translate business, regulatory, and payroll requirements into scalable designs; define and maintain WFM patterns, standards, and design principles; ensure architectural consistency across enhancements, projects, and production support.
  • Compliance & Risk: Design solutions compliant with U.S. federal/state/local labor regulations; partner with Legal, Payroll, HR policy, and risk teams to assess impacts and options; identify architectural/cybersecurity risks and mitigation strategies early; execute architectural reviews and ensure adherence to engineering/design standards.
  • Delivery & Governance: Provide architectural guidance through planning, building, testing, and deployment; participate in design reviews and architecture forums; review/approve solution designs, integration approaches, and data flows; recommend technologies/tools to improve performance, scalability, maintainability; resolve technical challenges and manage technical debt; support go-live readiness, operational handoff, and production stability.
  • Platform collaboration & stakeholder engagement: Partner with Integration, Security, and Data teams on resilient designs; influence platform decisions impacting WFM; communicate complex architecture to technical and non-technical audiences; support escalations affecting WFM solutions.

Required qualifications

  • Experience: 8+ years in HR technology or enterprise application architecture; demonstrated Workforce Management and/or payroll-adjacent solution design; experience operating in regulated U.S. labor/payroll environments; proven ability to lead solution architecture across complex, multi-system landscapes.
  • Workday & domain expertise: Strong knowledge of Workday Time & Absence and WFM concepts; understanding of HR processes across the employee lifecycle and how they map Workday business processes and security; hands-on Workday configuration across multiple HCM modules (implementations, redesigns, integrations, and large enhancements); familiarity with Workday architecture principles and governance; Workday Pro/certifications preferred.
  • Integration & technical skills: Workday integration patterns and data flows; time-to-pay and payroll integration concepts; system/solution design, APIs/integration design, foundational data architecture, security-by-design, and non-functional requirements (scalability, performance, resiliency, maintainability).
  • Professional skills: Strong analytical/problem-solving; balances compliance, business needs, and technical constraints; clear communication and stakeholder management; operates with architectural authority and accountability.

Preferred qualifications

  • Large-scale HR transformations or platform modernization programs
  • Unionized labor exposure and complex time rules
  • Experience supporting acquisitions/divestitures or large workforce changes
  • Prior Solution Architect or Technical Architect experience in HR or Payroll domains; comfortable operating in fast-changing environments and creating clarity out of ambiguity.
