As the Machinery Engineer/Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer you will be responsible for managing facility-based capital projects in an active chemical manufacturing plant as part of that plant's capital project's group.

Responsibilities
Typical Responsibilities:
  • Supports all phases of machinery engineering from concept development, scoping, selection, manufacturing, technical audit, final acceptance, start-up, troubleshooting, and failure analysis.
  • Prepare, review, and approve machinery or component purchase specifications which may include preparation of engineering, operating, maintenance or reliability standards, policies and instructions.
  • Provide technical review and approval of vendor calculations/drawings and technical reports.
  • Participate in resolution of all operational and reliability issues as may occur during start-up and during normal plant operation.
  • Answer technical inquiries, make technical recommendations, improve design tools, and develop design procedures.
  • Spearhead resolution of quality issues during equipment manufacturing, witness and approve factory acceptance test results on behalf of the company to ensure compliance with Chevron Engineering Standards (CES).
  • Ensures the work practices, applications, data, and tools are effective and efficient to meet Chevron and industry requirements. These include condition monitoring, machinery performance monitoring, routine and turnaround machinery work scope development, and Engineering Work Order development.
  • Lead machinery initiatives and studies to improve plant safety and reliability.
  • Support inputs to economic analysis for proposed upgrades or improvements to rotating equipment assets.
  • Participate in troubleshooting complex machinery problems, develop alternatives, and work with condition monitoring team members and others to propose and implement solutions for long-term reliability.
  • Works collaboratively with cross-functional teams (Operations, Technical, Routine Maintenance, Turnaround, Projects, Construction Services Group, etc.) to improve asset reliability.
  • Ensures lessons learned are shared and incorporated into the applicable systems for sustainability.
  • Promote adherence to CES for new or modified equipment and ensure the CES Governance Process is followed for any deviations. Evaluate gaps in CES and recommend changes; facilitate local review of new or revised standards prior to implementation; aid in the deployment and interpretation of CES.
  • Interface with Global Manufacturing and Corporate Best Practice teams for sharing lessons-learned and investigating new technology or new applications of existing technology.

Expected:
  • Candidate must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, with a minimum of 5-7 years of industry related experience working as a Machinery Engineer.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering manuals and codes, perform engineering calculations, and read technical drawings is required.
  • Demonstrated experience with rotating equipment is preferred (field troubleshooting, equipment selection and specification, vibrations analysis, failure mechanisms, etc.).
  • Complex Process Facility experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work with or lead a cross functional team tasked with solving complex problems.
  • Ability to follow procedures, seek understanding of hazards, and verify necessary safeguards are in place and sufficient
  • Proficient at applying Human and Organizational Performance principles to minimize error-likely situations in the performance of their work.
  • Ability to work in and foster a strong team environment with minimal supervision.
  • A proactive approach to solving problems and getting the job done.
  • Self-motivated/Self-directed.
  • Able to handle multiple activities simultaneously.
