Rise in Power is seeking an engaging and patient Chess Instructor to lead twice-monthly chess enrichment sessions for our after-school program. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys teaching strategy, critical thinking, and sportsmanship to children in a fun and supportive learning environment.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and lead 1-hour chess instruction sessions for elementary and middle school students
  • Teach age-appropriate chess skills, including:
    • Basic rules and piece movement
    • Strategy, problem-solving, and logical thinking
    • Sportsmanship, focus, and respectful competition
  • Differentiate instruction for beginners and more advanced players
  • Maintain a safe, positive, and structured classroom environment
  • Communicate with Rise in Power staff regarding scheduling and student needs
  • Follow all program policies related to child supervision and conduct
Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of chess fundamentals and strategy
  • Experience teaching chess to children or working with youth preferred
  • Ability to explain concepts clearly and keep students engaged
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional
  • Comfortable working as an independent contractor (vendor)
