The LYB Sourcing Specialist plays a crucial role in driving the success of a specific goods or services category within the company. This includes but is not limited to providing input to the process of developing and implementing effective sourcing strategies to achieve overall value for the assigned category.
A Day in the Life
  • Supports Category Managers in the implementation of sourcing plans and tactics to effectively manage the assigned portfolio and associated activities.
  • Supports Category Managers by completing complex analysis for both internal requirements and external market analysis to support the sourcing process.
  • Seeks direction from the Category Manager or Procurement Manager when contract terms do not apply.
  • Supports continuous improvement of supplier performance.
  • Participates in identifying, evaluating and selecting potential suppliers.
  • Supports all clients in the business and functions that responsible category areas support. An active team member with responsibility for various sourcing activities pertaining to business operation and providing support to the overall sourcing strategy.
  • Creates value by providing appropriate input into the development and implementation of sourcing strategies, function/business specific related agreements and related work processes in accordance with the global strategy.
  • Ensures accurate definition of requirements, negotiates local contracts, establishes and maintains an effective procurement system consistent with LYB control guidelines.
  • Analyzes bid responses to determine the most responsive and responsible bidder to optimize total cost of ownership for the internal client.
  • Executes procurement sourcing strategies in-line with overall functional and/or corporate objectives.
  • Analyzes spend data and market trends to identify and develop overall strategic sourcing initiatives which meet the needs of the customer and provides solutions/recommendations to the Category Manager based on research of institutional spend, end-user impact, feedback and marketplace analysis.
  • Works collaboratively with the Procurement Specialists in the implementation of strategic sourcing initiatives.
  • Develops and composes bid specifications in such a manner that internal customer needs are addressed.
  • Ability to decide if recurring purchases are appropriate for strategic sourcing agreement/initiatives.
  • Develops and maintains awareness of changing trends in the marketplace and the possible impact to the company.
  • Identify and select suppliers who prioritize sustainability practices, contributing to our company's commitment to environmental and social responsibility
  • Participates in supplier engagement efforts including but not limited to reviewing supplier performance against agreed upon KPIs and SLAs, developing and implementing supplier continuous improvement initiatives and monitoring suppliers' sustainability performance.
  • Performs spend analysis by collecting and analyzing spend data
  • Performs market analysis by doing market research and understanding the supplier landscape,
  • capabilities market trends and pricing models and by doing benchmarking which includes
  • comparing current prices and supplier performance against market standards to identify
  • potential improvements.

Education and Key Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred (or recognized equivalent). Master's degree preferred (or recognized equivalent).
  • 0+ years related experience required with a degree (4+ years in lieu of a degree);
  • 1+ years of chemical or related industry experience and knowledge related to purchasing and materials management is preferred.
