Job description

The Production Supervisor at AMVAC’s Axis, Alabama chemical manufacturing plant is responsible for overseeing safe and efficient plant operations and supervising production personnel. This position coordinates daily production activities, manages manpower, ensures product quality and safety compliance, and supports the achievement of production goals and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supervise production personnel and coordinate manpower across assigned work areas.
  • Plan and prioritize daily production activities to meet schedules, production targets, quality standards, and KPIs.
  • Coach employees, evaluate performance, address personnel concerns, and support employee development.
  • Ensure compliance with Quality Control requirements, product specifications, batch formulations, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Monitor production processes and coordinate necessary adjustments to maintain product quality.
  • Enforce company safety policies, OSHA requirements, environmental regulations, and EHS procedures.
  • Lead safety meetings and ensure proper handling of hazardous materials and waste.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance, I&E, Distribution, HR, EHS, Supply Chain, and other departments to support plant operations and minimize downtime.
  • Coordinate onboarding and hands-on training of production employees and verify operator competency.
  • Monitor production materials, equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Oversee the safe operation of plant equipment, including DCS systems, forklifts, Track Mobiles, and Yard Dogs.
  • Support special plant projects and other operational needs as assigned.


Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership, supervisory, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage employees, production priorities, and operational issues in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Knowledge of chemical manufacturing operations, safety requirements, and process control.
  • Working knowledge of reaction chemistry, distillation processes, and Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
  • Ability to read and understand P&IDs and basic electrical & mechanical engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to obtain required equipment certifications including Forklift, Track Mobile, and Yard Dog.
  • Dependable with the ability to maintain confidential employee and operational information.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug test and criminal background check.


Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Vocational/Technical, Chemical Engineering, Process Technology, or related degree preferred.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification required.
  • AIDT training preferred.


Experience Requirements:

  • 5+ years of chemical manufacturing experience required.
  • At least 3 years of direct supervisory experience in a chemical plant or similar manufacturing environment preferred.

 

Work Environment:

  • Position works in a specialty chemical manufacturing environment and may involve exposure to chemicals, dust, noise, moving equipment, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE and respiratory protection.
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, climbing, and other physical activity throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to lift and move more than 70 pounds and safely perform physical production-related tasks.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, or alternative schedules based on operational needs.
