Position Overview: The Cheese Merchandiser will oversee the cheese department, managing a team of cheese mongers to ensure operational excellence, product quality, and outstanding customer engagement. This role requires a certified cheese professional with strong leadership skills and a deep knowledge of cheese.

Accountabilities:

· Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor a team of cheese mongers at multiple locations, providing ongoing training in product knowledge, customer service, and best merchandising practices.

· Product Management: Curate and manage a diverse selection of local and artisanal cheeses, ensuring optimal inventory levels, freshness, and quality.

· Merchandising Excellence: Design and implement eye-catching displays that highlight our cheese offerings and attract customer interest.

· Customer Engagement: Lead initiatives to educate customers about various cheeses, including tastings and pairing suggestions, to enhance their shopping experience.

· Operational Oversight: Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and sanitation standards, monitoring storage conditions and product quality.

· Sales Analysis: Track sales performance, customer feedback, and market trends to inform product offerings and promotional strategies.

· Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, such as deli and grocery, to promote cross-merchandising opportunities and enhance overall store offerings.

· Community Involvement: Represent the cheese department at local events and markets to build relationships with customers and local cheese producers.

· Professional and technical knowledge: Keep skills current by completing educational opportunities, reviewing professional publications, benchmarking state of the art practices and networking.

Education, Experience and Skills:

· Certification as a Cheese Professional (CCP) from the American Cheese Society or an equivalent organization.

· Extensive knowledge of cheeses, including types, origins, and pairing options.

· Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team.

· Exceptional merchandising skills to plan and execute displays designed to drive profit, create interest, perceived value and suggest meal solutions.

· Excellent communication and customer service skills.

· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

· Proficient computer skills in excel, word and email. Able to learn and use a variety of proprietary applications and technology.

· Strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills.
