What is a chat representative?

Chat Representatives are customer service professionals who assist customers through online chat platforms. They answer inquiries, resolve issues, and provide information about products or services in real-time. Their role is crucial for companies that offer live chat support, ensuring customers receive prompt and effective help. Chat Representatives need strong communication skills, the ability to multitask, and a good understanding of the company's offerings. They often work remotely or in call centers, handling multiple conversations at once.

What does a chat representative do?

Chat representatives provide online customer service through a live chat support system. Your specific job duties vary, depending on your company and industry. But general responsibilities may include using online chat portals to answer questions, resolve payment issues, or help customers place orders. Technical chat representatives may help customers fix or solve problems they have with their electronics or service systems. Most chat representatives focus on communicating through text chat systems and email, but companies may also ask you to use a voice chat system. Chat representatives may work in a customer support facility, an office, or remotely from home.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a chat representative, and why are they important?

Do you enjoy an energetic sales environment and working with interesting, industry-leading products? We are recruiting an Inside Sales Representative on behalf of a growing Canadian specialty coffee and equipment retailer. The company offers a curated selection of espresso machines, grinders, accessories, and locally roasted coffee, with a strong focus on expert advice and customer education. You don't need prior coffee experience for this role, although interest in this space is important. This is an in-person position based in the showroom, where you will also assist customers through web chat and phone inquiries related to online orders.
Hours & Schedule

Option 1 (Preferred): 6 days a week / 45 hours

  • Monday-Friday: 9:00am - 5:00pm
  • Saturday: 11:00am - 4:00pm

Option 2: 5 days a week / 37 hours

Saturday is required, but you will receive a day off during the week.

Responsibilities

  • Handle in-store transactions (cash, debit, credit) with care and accuracy.
  • Build your knowledge of coffee, espresso machines, grinders, and accessories so you can provide expert advice and help customers use and maintain their equipment.
  • Support other departments when needed during busy times—you're a team player.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills and a welcoming, professional approach with customers.
  • Comfortable learning about coffee, espresso machines, grinders, accessories, and equipment maintenance.

  • Willing to support other departments during busy periods.
  • Available to work Saturdays and one of the schedules listed above.
  • A strong interest in coffee and enthusiasm for learning about coffee products are required; prior coffee industry experience is an asset but not required.

Benefits
  • $20/hour to start, with strong potential for future growth.
  • Full benefits after 3 months (medical, dental, vision).
  • Paid vacation: 2 weeks in year one, 3 weeks after that.
