Established in 1965, Easter Seals Camp Horizon specializes in accessible andinclusive summer camp experiences for individuals with disabilities and medicalconditions. We offer programs such as high ropes, rock climbing, camping, artsand crafts, leadership training, and more! Easter Seals fosters a workenvironment that is inclusive, diverse, and supportive, where every idea and perspectiveis valued to reflect the people we serve.

Our campers include youth and adults withdisabilities and complex medical conditions, requiring highly detailed medicalattention, organization, and care. The Lead Camp Nurse, is responsible for theoverall health and safety of all campers and staff. This position requires anempathetic, detail-oriented, and organized individual who can ensure thehighest standard of care while adhering to professional nursing standards andorganizational protocols.

Location: 1 Camp Horizon Road, Bragg Creek, Alberta

Key Responsibilities

Health Care& Medical Oversight

  • Conduct health screenings for all arriving campers and staff, identifying and documenting pre-existing conditions and immediate needs.
  • Administer routine and emergency medications per individual care plans, following strict protocols for accuracy.
  • Provide first aid and emergency care to campers and staff in line with professional nursing practices.
  • Securely manage and maintain health records for all campers and staff, ensuring documentation is accurate, thorough, and confidential in accordance with privacy laws (e.g., FOIP/PIPA).
  • Collaborate with medical professionals, including occupational therapists, physicians, and specialists, to ensure continuity of care for campers with pre-existing conditions.

Charting andDocumentation

  • Maintain meticulous charting and reporting of all care provided, including medications administered, incidents, and observed health changes.
  • Document and report medical emergencies to appropriate authorities, ensuring compliance with Alberta Health Services (AHS) guidelines.
  • Develop and implement standardized nursing protocols and procedures to prevent errors and improve care quality.

Mentorshipand Leadership

  • Educate camp staff on medical emergency protocols, including first aid basics, medication safety, and how to identify warning signs of health concerns.
  • Assist in the leadership of The Health Center Team

RegulatoryCompliance

  • Adhere to all standards set by the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
  • Ensure compliance with Easter Seals Alberta policies, AHS regulations, and provincial health and safety requirements.
  • Uphold ethical and professional standards of care in all interactions with campers, staff, and families.

Your Skills and Experience

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with active registration in good standing with the CRNA or CLPNA.
  • Proof of nursing insurance as required by CRNA/CLPNA for practicing nurses in Alberta.
  • Strong understanding of disability care and experience working with individuals with complex medical needs.
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C certifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain detailed and accurate charting and documentation in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to liaise with families, medical professionals, and camp staff.

Working Conditions

  • Onsite in Bragg Creek, AB, for the duration of the summer season.
  • Workdays are 5-6 days per week, ranging from 8-12 hours per day, in a dynamic camp environment.
  • On-call duties overnight to be shared between thenurses.
  • Outdoor work in varied weather conditions, providing care and support during camp activities.
  • Collaboration with individuals from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
