Job description


North America Central is hiring skilled Diesel Mechanics in the Charleston, IL area.

Earn Up To $37 Per Hour

Previous mechanical experience required!

  • NASCB / ASE certification incentives – earn up to $5.00 extra per hour*

What You’ll Do
  • Maintain, repair, and overhaul school buses and fleet vehicles in compliance with FMCSA and DOT standards
  • Perform inspections, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance
  • Troubleshoot diesel engines, electrical systems, and mechanical components
  • Support and adopt EV maintenance practices and new technology
  • Complete tune-ups, wheel alignments, and safety inspections
  • Replace worn parts, change filters, and perform routine servicing
  • Test drive vehicles to confirm safety and performance
  • Perform minor bodywork and repainting as needed
  • Track parts usage, manage inventory, and order supplies
  • Identify and report safety concerns with corrective actions
  • Mentor junior technicians and support team development
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

What You Need
  • Experience in diesel engine repair and vehicle maintenance.
  • Familiarity with FMCSA and DOT safety standards.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Leadership skills and willingness to train others.
  • Technical certification or ASE preferred

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Work in a shop/garage, bus yard, and occasional road calls
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and perform physical tasks (bending, crouching, climbing)
  • Use of hand and power tools daily
  • Must pass DOT physical and comply with a drug-free workplace
