Job description

Title: Battery Test Engineer

Location: Sunnyvale, CA (Onsite

Exp: 5-12 years

No H1 Transfers

Note: Candidates from companies that make wearable/hearable (consumer electronics) products

We are seeking a hands-on Battery Test Engineer to support battery-related validation and characterization activities. Working closely with the battery systems lead, this role focuses on planning, executing, and reporting on laboratory testing of battery cells, packs, charging systems, and associated power electronics. The ideal candidate is meticulous, safety-conscious, and comfortable working in a fast-paced hardware development lab.

What You will Do:

  • Set up and execute battery characterization tests: charge/discharge cycling, capacity, internal resistance, load sweeps, and temperature-dependent behavior.
  • Operate lab instrumentation (source meters, electronic loads, battery cyclers, data acquisition systems, oscilloscopes, thermal chambers) and maintain calibration and safety standards.
  • Perform bench bring-up, functional testing, and characterization of power supply circuits, regulators, and power rails.
  • Build and maintain test fixtures, harnesses, and instrumentation for cells, packs, chargers, and power rails.
  • Capture, process, and analyze test data; identify anomalies, trends, and failure signatures; summarize findings in clear reports.
  • Support charging-system, fuel-gauge, and battery-management validation, including brownout, peak-power, and protection behavior.
  • Assist in root-cause investigations and characterization of power/battery issues discovered during bring-up and validation.
  • Document test plans, procedures, and results; keep organized records of raw data and derived metrics.
  • Follow all battery-handling, storage, and lab-safety protocols.

What You Will Bring:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Working knowledge of battery fundamentals: cell chemistry, capacity, internal resistance, state-of-charge, charge/discharge behavior.
  • Hands-on experience with lab instrumentation and electrical measurement.
  • Comfortable interpreting schematics, power trees, and datasheets.
  • Strong data-analysis skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or spreadsheet-based tools).
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to document work clearly.
