Job description
At Scout Motors, you don't just design vehicles- you shape the future of the road. Our Engineering team is where bold ideas meet rigorous execution, building machines that are as durable and capable as the people who drive them. You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with brilliant minds across disciplines, turning complex challenges into elegant, scalable solutions that meet the highest standards of safety, performance, and user experience. This is a place where your fingerprints are found on metal - where what you design gets built, driven, and remembered. If you're hungry to engineer something that matters, Scout Motors is where that ambition finds its highest gear.Â
In this role, you will lead program execution, issue resolution, and cross-functional alignment across the entire vehicle program, ensuring delivery of complex vehicle systems in line with Scout's product, timing, quality, and cost targets. You will operate at a vehicle and system integration level, acting as a central driver of transparency, accountability, and structured decision-making across R&D and cross-functional teams.Â
Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:
- Own the definition, implementation, and continuous improvement of KPIs for all main system teams (MST) and functional departments, ensuring clear performance measurement across scope, timing, quality, cost, and investment targets at the complete vehicle level.Â
- Act as a central integration point across teams, ensuring consistency in assumptions, planning, risk management, and execution.Â
- Establish and maintain program-level execution tracking and reporting, ensuring transparency of R&D deliverables, milestone readiness, and KPI performance.Â
- Identify, assess, and proactively mitigate risks related to technical feasibility, timing, quality, and cost, ensuring early visibility and structured resolution.Â
- Prepare leadership materials and facilitate governance forums and executive reviews, driving structured decision-making and escalation to ensure timely, aligned outcomes.
- Centrally steer cross-functional alignment and decision clarity, ensuring timely resolution of issues and alignment on trade-offs across R&D. Â
- Report R&D KPIs, deliverables status, and key risks to leadership and stakeholders, enabling data-driven decision-making and program transparency.Â
- Ensure robust change control governance, including prioritization, tracking, vetting and R&D cross-functional alignment on all changes.Â
- Support overall program execution and milestone delivery, ensuring feature and system maturity aligns with development phases and launch readiness targets.Â
Location & Travel Expectations:
- This role may be based out of the Scout Motors corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC.Â
- This role requires 4-5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events.Â
- Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.
- Travel: Occasional travel may be required to support program activities, testing, and leadership reviews. Valid drivers license required.
We expect all Scout employees to have integrity, curiosity, resourcefulness, and strive to exhibit a positive attitude, as well as a growth mindset. You'll be comfortable with change and flexible in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. You'll take a collaborative approach to achieve ambitious goals. Here's what else you'll bring:
- 10+ years of professional experience in the automotive industry, with a strong focus on program management, product management, or cross-functional vehicle development execution.Â
- Bachelors in engineering and proven experience managing complex, cross-functional automotive programs from concept through launch.Â
- Strong track record of defining and managing KPIs, program metrics, and performance reporting frameworks.Â
- Demonstrated ability to identify risks, drive mitigation strategies, and lead structured escalations.Â
- Experience facilitating executive-level decision-making and governance forums.Â
- Proven experience managing engineering change processes and understanding impacts to scope, timing, cost, and system maturity.Â
- Strong experience in driving cross-functional alignment and resolving issues, with the ability to influence without direct authority.Â
- Excellent analytical and structured problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex inputs into actionable decisions.Â
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex program data into clear leadership messaging.Â
- Solid understanding of automotive development processes, milestone frameworks, and system integration challenges.Â
- Proficiency with program and project management tools (e.g., JIRA, Microsoft Project, KPI dashboards).Â
- Demonstrated AI literacy, with the ability to leverage AI-enabled tools (e.g., generative AI, analytics, automation) to improve reporting, decision-making, and execution efficiency.Â
- High attention to detail with a strong focus on execution excellence, accountability, and transparency.Â
Preferred QualificationsÂ
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.Â
- Experience working in Agile or hybrid development environments.Â
- Experience in EV architectures or software-defined vehicle platforms.Â
- A good understanding of the Volkswagen PEP Product development system.Â
