Job description

Greene Lumber, a member of The Baillie Group, is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Chainsaw / Equipment Operator to join our team in Davenport, NY. This position plays an important role in supporting log yard and sawmill operations by operating chainsaws processing logs, various equipment, maintaining safe work areas, and assisting with the efficient flow of materials throughout the facility.
The ideal candidate will have experience of operating equipment in an industrial, forestry, logging, construction, or agricultural environment and be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Safely operate chainsaws to buck, trim, and process logs as needed.
  • Operate various equipment which could include sawmill machinery, loaders, skid steers, and other mobile equipment as needed.
  • Inspect equipment daily and report maintenance or repair needs.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas in accordance with company safety standards.
  • Work closely with supervisors and team members to support daily production goals.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and lockout/tagout requirements.
  • Perform general labor and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Previous chainsaw experience required.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment preferred.
  • Logging, forestry, sawmill, construction, agricultural, or industrial experience is highly preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine equipment inspections.
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Dependable attendance and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn additional equipment and responsibilities as needed.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, and work on uneven terrain throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including chainsaw safety gear.
