Job description

Direct Counsel represents a prestigious AmLaw firm seeking an International Trade Associate with 5–7 years of experience to join its Governmental Practice Group in Southern California. This position may be based in San Diego, Del Mar, Los Angeles, Century City, or Orange County, with preference given to candidates located in or willing to relocate to Orange County, Los Angeles, or Century City.

This opportunity is ideal for an attorney with substantial international trade experience who is interested in advising clients on complex sanctions, export controls, customs, foreign investment, and regulatory compliance matters within a nationally recognized practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Advise clients on international trade compliance and regulatory matters
  • Handle matters involving export controls, sanctions, customs law, and foreign investment reviews
  • Conduct legal research and analysis related to U.S. and international trade regulations
  • Assist clients with compliance involving EAR, ITAR, OFAC, CFIUS, customs regulations, and trade agreements
  • Draft legal memoranda, compliance guidance, and regulatory filings
  • Communicate with regulatory agencies and support clients in investigations and enforcement matters
  • Collaborate with attorneys across practice groups on cross-border and regulatory matters

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • 5–7 years of international trade law experience
  • Large law firm or relevant government agency experience preferred
  • Experience with at least three of the following areas strongly preferred:
    • Export controls (EAR/ITAR)
    • Foreign investment reviews (CFIUS)
    • Economic sanctions and embargoes
    • Customs law
    • International trade agreements
    • Antidumping and countervailing duties (AD/CVD)
  • Excellent research, analytical, writing, and communication skills
  • Strong academic credentials required
  • Licensed and in good standing with the California Bar
