What You'll Do
As Behavior Intervention Specialist, you will develop comprehensive behavioral support plans consistent with OPWDD regulations using positive, proactive approaches, emphasizing the development of replacement behaviors. You will develop comprehensive behavior intervention plans consistent with New York State Education Department (NYSED) regulations that focus on proactive and active strategies that support an individual's academic goals. You will also support the monitoring, data collection, and reporting of behavioral challenges and the growth of replacement behaviors.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
  • Completing functional behavioral analysis prior to the development of a behavior support plan (BSP) - OPWDD - at intake and yearly.
  • Completing behavior Support plans (BSPs) for residents - OPWDD at intake and yearly or as requested by the Human Rights Committee (HRC).
  • Obtaining CSE consent to engage in a functional analysis (FBA) for a school-day student (under NYSED regulations) prior to the development of a behavior intervention plan (BIP) per NYSED and introduce the FBA and BIP at CSE prior to implementation.
  • Developing a school Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) for school-day students who are not adequately served by the school-wide set of positive supports.
  • Monitoring and collect data on an ongoing basis for maladaptive and replacement behaviors.
  • Coordinating with psychiatry and nursing staff in the development of PRN protocols for psychotropic PRN medications.
  • Coordinating with nursing staff on MIPS requests.
  • Obtaining parental consent for Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) and PRN protocols prior to HRC submission.
  • Ensuring that prior to HRC submission and utilization, that nursing staff has obtained parental consents for psychotropic medications, MIPS, and PRNs administration.
  • Compiling information and completing human rights committee packets and requests for Behavior Support Plans (BSPs), MIPS requests, psychotropic medications, PRN medication requests, Addendums and similar.
  • Presenting BSPs, MIPS requests, psychotropic medications, PRN requests, and Addendums at the Human Rights Committee (but not school BIPs).
  • Compiling and writing a monthly behavior summary for residential clients and at least quarterly for day students.
  • Attending and participating in CFA, ITT, CSE, psychiatric rounds, and other treatment, staff, and professional development meetings.
  • Providing training to direct support staff, Teacher aides and assistants, Residence Managers, Teachers, clinical staff and management in the areas of emergency interventions, positive and proactive strategies, restrictive plans, client rights, incident reporting, data collection and parent support and rights.
  • Providing direct behavioral support and training to families to increase their capacity to serve their own family member.
  • Observing students, coach students, and coach staff and family in school, residence and family settings on a regular basis.

You're a great fit for this role if you have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Human Services or Education with 2+ years' experience in behavioral support and functional analysis (preferred)
  • Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA)
  • Valid driver's license (required)

Compensation
$60,500 - $64,000/yr
