Job Description

The Chick-fil-A Assistant Manager is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Chick-fil-A location at Howard University. This position assists with leading the team, maintaining brand standards, ensuring excellent guest
service, supporting food safety and sanitation, monitoring employee performance, and helping drive operational efficiency in a high-volume campus dining environment.

The Assistant Manager provides hands-on leadership during service, supports employee training and accountability, and ensures that Aramark, Howard University, Chick-fil-A brand standards, company policies, SOPs, and applicable collective bargaining agreement requirements are followed consistently.

Compensation Data

COMPENSATION: The Hourly rate for this position is $33.00 to $34.00. If both numbers are the same, that is the amount that Aramark expects to offer. This is Aramark’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for this position as of the time of posting.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist with overseeing daily Chick-fil-A operations, including opening and closing procedures, service flow, product availability, food quality, station readiness, and overall guest experience.
  • Support consistent execution of Chick-fil-A brand standards, including customer service expectations, food preparation, product presentation, speed of service, cleanliness, hospitality, and merchandising.
  • Provide daily direction, coaching, training, and feedback to hourly employees in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Monitor attendance, punctuality, productivity, uniforms, breaks, meal periods, conduct, and performance concerns, partnering with the Manager, HR, and Operations leadership as needed.
  • Ensure employees are working within their assigned classifications and job responsibilities.
  • Assist with preparing, posting, maintaining, and updating employee schedules based on business needs, peak service periods, operational requirements, and CBA guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Howard Rider, employee handbook, company policies, SOPs, scheduling requirements, classifications, overtime rules, and timekeeping procedures.
  • Train and reinforce expectations related to Chick-fil-A service standards, food preparation, food safety, sanitation, equipment use, cash handling, and workplace safety.
  • Create a welcoming, student-centered retail environment by responding promptly and professionally to guest concerns, employee issues, client requests, and operational needs.
  • Monitor inventory, product rotation, par levels, waste, storage, retail displays, and stock levels to ensure the location is prepared for daily service.
  • Support cost control efforts related to labor, food waste, supplies, inventory, cash handling, and product usage.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, HACCP, allergen, sanitation, health department, and workplace safety standards.
  • Ensure employees follow proper handwashing, glove use, food handling, uniform, hair restraint, cleaning, and sanitation procedures.
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs of the service line, kitchen, storage areas, dining areas, back-of-house spaces, and employee work areas to ensure the location is clean, organized, safe, and inspection-ready.
  • Support pre-shift meetings, safety huddles, accident reporting, hazard identification, corrective follow-up, and daily team communication.
  • Assist with accurate completion of daily logs, temperature records, cleaning checklists, cash handling records, inventory counts, payroll support, attendance tracking, corrective action documentation, and operational reports.
  • Partner with the Chick-fil-A Manager, campus dining leadership, HR, culinary, finance, and Howard University representatives to support operational goals, service improvements, and client expectations.
Qualifications
Required
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience in food service, quick-service restaurants, retail food operations, hospitality, or a related environment.
  • Strong customer service, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead employees in a fast-paced, high-volume retail dining environment.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply company policies, SOPs, collective bargaining agreement requirements, and brand standards.
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, cash handling, inventory, and workplace safety practices.
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events based on business needs.
  • Basic computer skills, including email, scheduling systems, timekeeping systems, POS systems, and operational reporting tools.
Preferred
  • Experience working in a Chick-fil-A, quick-service restaurant, campus dining, or high-volume retail food operation.
  • Experience in higher education or university dining.
  • Experience working in a union environment.
  • ServSafe or other food safety certification.
  • Experience with Kronos, inventory systems, POS systems, scheduling systems, ordering, production planning, and cash handling.
