Cervical cancer nurse navigators often encounter the challenge of guiding patients through complex treatment plans while providing emotional support and education about the disease. They must coordinate multidisciplinary care between oncologists, surgeons, and support services, ensuring patients do not miss critical appointments or information. Additionally, these professionals help patients overcome barriers such as transportation, financial concerns, and language differences, making strong organizational and communication skills essential to success in this role.

What is cervical cancer?

Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the cells lining the cervix, which is the lower part of the uterus connecting to the vagina. It is most often caused by persistent infection with certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV), a common sexually transmitted infection. Early stages of cervical cancer may not cause symptoms, but as it progresses, symptoms like abnormal vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain, or pain during intercourse may occur. Regular screening and HPV vaccination can significantly reduce the risk of developing cervical cancer.
