POSITION SUMMARY
HASI is seeking a Risk Professional to join our Portfolio Management team in Annapolis, MD.
The Risk Professional will support the Risk Management and Modeling Team in monitoring HASI's portfolio of climate positive projects. In addition, the individual would support due diligence in underwriting new debt / equity investments. The individual will play a pivotal role in ensuring that HASI's investments are able to deliver on their performance targets while managing overall risks for the portfolio. The individual will support the tracking of portfolio performance and risk exposures and prepare periodic risk reports.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support due diligence on new investments including identifying key investment risks and working with the Investment Team to mitigate them
  • Performing variance analysis and sensitivities on project cash flow forecasts
  • Evaluate risks in offtaker contracts and work with Portfolio Management on mitigation strategies
  • Analyze and monitor sponsor and counterparty credit quality
  • Be part of a team responsible for measuring the performance of and identifying risks within HASI's portfolio investments. The position requires maintaining an understanding of the underlying project assets and investment structures (financial, technical, and contractual)
  • Familiarity with the deal documents, HASI's rights/obligations, and financial models of HASI's investments
  • Support portfolio optimization initiatives to enhance performance and reduce risk.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to facilitate the complete, accurate, and timely monitoring of investments
  • Assist in preparation and presentation of periodic internal, leadership, and Board materials
  • Support investment workouts, modifications, and dispositions and analyze the impact to the portfolio. Associated responsibilities include developing workplans for cross-functional workstreams across the enterprise, assessing the corresponding value and risk, and reviewing final deal documents
  • Work closely with the Investment Group in all facets of investment execution, from initial qualification evaluation, term sheet development, internal investment proposal, due diligence, and documentation closing.

SPECIFIC RECOMMENDED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Previous direct investment/financing experience in energy/renewable assets and related financial investments (i.e. project finance debt and equity) from either an owner/operator or financial investor perspective
  • Solid working knowledge and understanding of commercial contracts, operations and maintenance, and regulations related to clean energy
  • Strong financial analysis and modeling skills with experience in creating, reviewing, and analyzing financial models

EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE
  • 7-10 years of overall professional experience, with at least 5-7 years' experience in credit risk management, bank credit, portfolio management, or investing, preferably with some of that time covering the energy/renewables sector
  • Bachelor's degree in a business or technical discipline (i.e. engineering or finance/business). Relevant Master's degree, CFA or other certification is preferred

$145,000 - $220,000 a year
