Job description

What We Offer
The Certified Anesthesia Technologist performs professional technical functions to assist the Physician and CRNA's to provide patient care during Cardiac, Ortho, Neuro and Trauma invasive procedures as documented by completing criteria-based performance. As directed by a Physician, administers medication as ordered and documents appropriately. Assists the Physician in percutaneous procedures, assist Anesthesia providers with physiological monitoring of patients, notifying them of abnormal changes in vital signs and /or physical appearance of the patient. Performs moderate complexity and waived Point of Care testing per CLIA guidelines, based upon completion of training with appropriate documentation and ongoing competency assessment. Trained as a Super User of POCT. The Certified Anesthesia Technologist consults operating room schedules to determine supply and equipment needs for procedures; prepares Anesthetizing locations for all procedures. Required to orientate all new personnel and students to the units.
What You'll Do
Essential Functions
Assists Anesthesia providers using aseptic or sterile technique with non-invasive and invasive patient procedures including peripheral and/or central venous and/or arterial line placement; airway management techniques including mask, endotracheal, Glidescope, McGrath or LMA and/or emergency methods with the Fiber optic scope and also assists with regional anesthesia techniques.
Operates physiological monitoring equipment. Maintains continuous monitoring and monitors EKG recording, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, and is able to identify arrhythmias.
Advanced knowledge in various airway equipment including but not limited to double lumen tubes, bronchial blockers, microlaryngeal tubes, King tubes, laser tubes, reinforced, and NIM tubes.
Obtains blood products and pharmaceuticals assisting with preparation and delivery. Assists with pre-transfusion checks for blood product administration. Maintains immediate availability to assist in routine and emergency procedures.
Loads IV pumps with medications. Sets controls for appropriate volume and injection upon Anesthesiologists order. Administers medications under guidance and direction of Anesthesiologists.
Assembles sterile equipment, instruments, catheters, etc, and assist with percutaneous approach and other duties related to sterile field.
Assists with cardiac output determination as well as other calculations and has excellent working knowledge of all catheters and intervention catheter-based equipment.
Responds appropriately in an emergency situation and has good working knowledge of emergency medications, CPR and defibrillation.
Demonstrates detailed technical knowledge and operation of Trasnsesophageal echo, Cell salvaging, Ultrasound, Intraaortic Balloon pump, Belmont Rapid Infuser, Hemosafe, Flotrac, and Clearsight monitoring.
Performs all Quality controls for Point of Care devices. Performs all CAP surveys for all devices in Anesthesia Department. Maintains supporting documentation and quality control documentation. Maintains an authorized user list. Trains and recertifies staff on use of equipment. Trained as Epic Super User and troubleshooter for the department.
Demonstrates standard of performance (ownership, teamwork communication, compassion) that support patient satisfaction and principles of service excellence.
Non-Essential Functions
All other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. 2 Year / Associate Degree, preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year experience in Anesthesia, required.
  • Licensure/Certification: Certified Anesthesia Technologist, BCLS and PALS, required. EMT, preferred.
  • Additional Skills Required: Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Understands and practices the importance of proper cleaning and disinfecting of anesthesia equipment; inventory and ordering ability in order to meet supply and demand; some knowledge of
    anesthesia equipment and medical terminology.
  • Work schedule: 6:30am - 5pm
