WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Certification Engineer supports certification activities for Epic's Part 23 Utility Category aircraft and works with engineering teams to ensure compliance with applicable airworthiness regulations.Responsibilities may include developing certification strategies, preparing compliance documentation, coordinating regulatory submittals, and evaluating design changes in accordance with 14 CFR Parts 21 and 23. The role may also support certification-related service documentation and post-delivery changes associated with in-service aircraft.Depending on experience level, the Certification Engineer may also participate in regulatory interface activities with the FAA and other civil aviation authorities tosupport the determination of appropriate certification paths, including change classification and definition of acceptable means of compliance. Other responsibilities include:

  • Support the development of project-specificcertification plans, compliance checklists, and statements of compliance
  • Evaluate design changes in accordance with 14 CFR Part 21 and assist in determining appropriate certification paths
  • Prepare regulatory submittals and coordinate documentation packages for FAA and other civil aviation authority review
  • Review engineering reports, drawings, test plans, analyses, and substantiation data to ensure compliance findings are technically sound and well-documented
  • Research applicable regulations, Advisory Circulars, and policy guidance to support certification strategies and means of compliance
  • Participate in technical discussions with engineering teams and regulatory authorities to support certification activities
  • Support foreign validation activities, including the coordination of responses and tracking of authority questions
  • Identify potential certification risks and escalate issues as appropriate
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of certification processes, internal procedures, and change classification consistency
  • Travel as required to support certification and validation activities

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Materials, or related engineering discipline
  • Experience in aerospace engineering, certification, regulatory compliance, or related disciplines
  • Familiarity with 14 CFR Part 23 airworthiness standards and interest in aircraft certification processes
  • Strong technical writing skills and the ability to clearly document engineering findings
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering teams
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer without sponsorship now or in the future

HIGHLY DESIRABLE

  • Experience with aircraft certification programs
  • Familiarity with 14 CFR Part 21 certification procedures and Part 23 airworthiness standards
  • Experience supporting amended type certification or supplemental type certification projects
  • Familiarity with FAA issue papers, special conditions, or equivalent level of safety findings
  • Experience supporting composite structure compliance
  • Experience working with international aviation authorities
  • Familiarity with aircraft service documentation, such as service bulletins, maintenance manuals, or instructions for continued airworthiness
  • Small aircraft DER experience
