The Certified Cancer Program Abstractor manages the medical data collection system in accordance with established state guidelines to assure current reporting of all cancer diagnoses to the Louisiana State Tumor Registry. This position assists in maintaining hospital compliance with established standards of the American College of Surgeons to maintain accreditation status. Responsibilities include abstracting, coding, staging, follow-up and treatment information retrieval, data collection and reporting activities, and supporting Cancer Program initiatives in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and standards.

- Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years of tumor registry experience required.
- Previous coding experience in ICD-9-CM or CPT preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Case Review, Abstracting & Staging
- Review pathology reports, cytology reports, autopsy reports, and the disease index to determine appropriate cases to be abstracted for the tumor registry.
- Select, abstract, code, and stage appropriate cases with reportable diagnoses or malignant neoplasms.
- Data Collection & Reporting
- Assist in data collection and compilation for the Womanโs Hospital Cancer Annual Report and other specialty reports as requested.
- Assist in data retrieval and analysis activities, including patient care evaluation studies and other reporting needs.
- Follow-Up & Commission on Cancer Compliance
- Perform follow-up procedures, including treatment information retrieval from physician offices, to maintain cancer patient follow-up within required percentage guidelines in accordance with American College of Surgeons standards.
- Maintain knowledge of American College of Surgeons requirements for becoming and maintaining a cancer approved program.
- Cancer Program & Registry Support
- Assist in preparation for quarterly committee meetings, Breast Tumor Conferences, GYN Tumor Conferences, and special projects as assigned.
- Communicate pertinent information regarding problems, anticipated issues, and procedural recommendations in an accurate and timely manner.
- Quality & Process Improvement
- Recommend procedural changes and support ongoing Cancer Program and registry process improvements.
- Maintain current knowledge of reporting requirements, registry standards, and industry updates.

- Full-Time; Monday - Friday
- 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
- Hybrid flexibility available after training/orientation period
Compensation:

- $20.82 - $30.19
