Summary:
The Psychiatric Educator is an expert behavioral health professional who understands and utilizes evidence-based theory, assessments, and interventions to promote stabilization in the acutely ill psychiatric patient. The Psychiatric Educator will network with Northern Light Health and external partner hospital Emergency Departments and inpatient units across the state to develop and provide ongoing education regarding nursing management of the psychiatric patient. The Psychiatric Educator will provide leadership to nursing staff and will be adept at negotiating conflict, managing highly stressful situations, building trust, and collaborating with others. This role will promptly and efficiently evaluate and provide recommendations on the management of patients. The Psychiatric Educator will demonstrate leadership and knowledge by collaborating with nursing leaders to share observations, offer solutions to nursing care challenges and address training and competency gaps within their departments. The Psychiatric Educator will also be responsible for maintaining a continual knowledge of appropriate updates to Cerner Behavioral Health and how new tools may advance care delivery within our partner hospital environments. To be successful, the individual in this position must: have initiative, Demonstrate leadership in psychiatric care Value relationship-building and collaboration Demonstrate an ability to communicate at all levels internal and external to the organization through trainings, presentations, reports, email, and verbal communication Demonstrate a high degree of ease in designing and delivering trainings to peers and leaders and adapt such training to various learning styles Achieve metrics identified for the behavioral health service line and consult team which relate directly to nursing care and collaboration to drive results across organizations Adept at negotiating conflict and interacting with acutely agitated individuals Appreciate working with all age groups Demonstrate working knowledge of milieu management.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead by both action and example.
  • Develops, implements, and regularly reviews relevant nursing training modules.
  • Serves as a liaison with nurse managers in partner hospital emergency departments and inpatient units regarding patient safety &milieu management.
  • Co- facilitate with Consult Team Operations Manager the Case Escalation Team when initiated either by Consult Team staff or a partner hospital.
  • Demonstrates expert knowledge of psychiatric patients to include behavioral health care plans, milieu management, understanding of psychotropic medications and community services.
  • Maintain regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission, Federal and State regulatory bodies.
  • Continually assess the need for education regarding management of the acute behavioral health patient through ongoing awareness of acuity in each partnering hospital.
  • Respond quickly to nurse leader in the moment requests for support.
  • Assist nursing staff and leaders to identify gaps in training.
  • Assist nursing staff with completion of behavioral health care plans, as requested.
  • Design and facilitate trainings to partner hospitals on various topics related to psychiatric patients, at request.
  • Deliver trainings in person as requested by partner facility.
  • Maintain psychiatric education portal through at least annual reviews of information with various subject matter experts, assure accuracy of information and be accountable for contents.
  • Manage access of education portal through verification of access requests to assure information is only available to our contracted partner facilities.
  • Plan, manage and be accountable for annual ED Summit training on site at Acadia. Responsible for agenda, facilitation, space, scheduling speakers. Etc.
