Job description

Shop Technician

Work type: 12 Month Hourly Staff FT
Location: Savannah
Categories: Ceramics

As a shop technician, you'll work to provide a clean, safe, and orderly studio environment for faculty to successfully teach in and students to complete projects. Your efforts will also help to continuously grow the ceramics minor.

To support the department, you'll:
Train students on the proper use of studio equipment and procedures
Monitor studio hours
Manage loading, firing, and unloading of kilns and throwing wheels
Photograph outstanding student work
Order clay and supplies and research new materials and techniques

You will also:
Manage inventories
Mix glazes and make clay
Collaborate with ceramics faculty to meet studio equipment and supply expectations
Support SCADextra workshops and SCADday programs, end of year exhibitions, and other special events
Work with the ceramics club to host events and exhibitions in the studio

Minimum qualifications:
Work experience as a ceramic artist.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred qualifications:
B.F.A. in a related field
Experience firing ceramic works and with raku
Travel required:
Less than 10%

Work hours:The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
