Job description

Who We Are
Centurion was founded on a simple idea, leveraging our extensive experience with mid- and large-sized consulting firms to create our own company. Our focus is on engaging in project assignments with select clients who align with our values, all while enjoying the work we do. Our vision for the future is to continue growing and providing opportunities for both seasoned professionals and those just entering the workforce.
Position Summary
Centurion Planning & Design is seeking a LiDAR & Geospatial Processing Technician to support our Survey Department and growing reality-capture capabilities. This position will focus primarily on the processing, quality control, and production of survey deliverables from aerial LiDAR, drone photogrammetry, terrestrial LiDAR, and conventional survey data.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with large point cloud and geospatial datasets and understand how raw field data is transformed into accurate, survey-ready deliverables. This individual will work closely with survey field crews, drone pilots, CAD technicians, GIS staff, Project Managers, and licensed surveyors throughout the data processing and production workflow.
This is primarily an office-based data processing and production position, although occasional field support may be required.
Key Responsibilities
  • Process aerial LiDAR data collected using unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).
  • Process drone imagery and photogrammetric datasets to produce point clouds, orthomosaics, elevation models, and other mapping products.
  • Process GNSS/INS and PPK trajectory data associated with aerial LiDAR collection.
  • Perform LiDAR strip alignment, calibration, classification, filtering, and noise removal.
  • Classify ground points and develop bare-earth terrain models from aerial LiDAR datasets.
  • Process and register terrestrial LiDAR and laser scanning datasets.
  • Georeference and combine LiDAR, imagery, GNSS, and conventional survey datasets using established survey control.
  • Extract breaklines, terrain features, planimetric features, and survey linework from point clouds and imagery.
  • Develop surfaces, contours, and other topographic mapping products.
  • Perform QA/QC by comparing processed LiDAR and photogrammetric data against survey control and independent checkpoints.
  • Identify and troubleshoot control discrepancies, trajectory issues, registration errors, poor strip alignment, data gaps, classification errors, and other issues affecting data quality.
  • Coordinate with field crews and drone pilots regarding data quality, control, coverage, and potential recollection requirements.
  • Prepare processed survey data for use in Civil 3D, TBC, ArcGIS, and other client-required formats.
  • Manage and organize large point cloud, imagery, trajectory, and survey datasets.
  • Maintain documentation of coordinate systems, datums, control, processing methods, accuracy checks, and project-specific workflows.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining company standards and workflows for aerial LiDAR, photogrammetry, terrestrial scanning, and other reality-capture technologies.
  • Support final QA/QC of survey deliverables prior to Project Manager and/or RPLS review.

Software & Technology
Experience with one or more of the following is preferred. Candidates are not expected to have prior experience with every platform.
  • YellowScan CloudStation - Aerial LiDAR processing, point cloud visualization, strip alignment, classification, filtering, and quality control.
  • Qinertia - GNSS/INS post-processing, PPK trajectory processing, and positioning workflows associated with aerial LiDAR.
  • Virtual Surveyor - Terrain modeling and extraction of survey information, breaklines, contours, and features from aerial LiDAR and photogrammetric datasets.
  • Trimble Business Center (TBC) - Survey data processing, control, point cloud processing, QA/QC, and integration of conventional and reality-capture survey data.
  • Autodesk Civil 3D - Development and review of survey surfaces, breaklines, contours, linework, and topographic survey deliverables.
  • Esri ArcGIS - Management, analysis, review, and delivery of geospatial data and integration of survey-derived information into GIS workflows.

Experience with Freefly Astro, YellowScan LiDAR systems, Trimble X7, RIEGL terrestrial scanners, or similar survey-grade LiDAR and reality-capture equipment is a plus.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience processing LiDAR, photogrammetry, point cloud, or geospatial survey data.
  • Working knowledge of surveying fundamentals and the relationship between field collection, survey control, processing, and final deliverables.
  • Understanding of coordinate systems, datums, projections, elevations, and georeferencing.
  • Ability to work with large point cloud, imagery, and geospatial datasets.
  • Ability to evaluate data quality and recognize errors or inconsistencies rather than relying solely on automated processing results.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain structured project files and repeatable processing workflows.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and processing tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with field personnel, CAD technicians, GIS staff, Project Managers, and licensed surveyors.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience with a land surveying, engineering, mapping, or geospatial firm.
  • Experience processing survey-grade aerial LiDAR.
  • Experience processing UAS/drone photogrammetry.
  • Experience with PPK and GNSS/INS trajectory processing.
  • Experience with LiDAR classification and bare-earth surface generation.
  • Experience registering and processing terrestrial laser scanning data.
  • Experience integrating conventional survey, GNSS, aerial LiDAR, terrestrial LiDAR, and photogrammetric datasets.
  • Experience producing topographic mapping and engineering design base files from point cloud data.
  • Familiarity with survey and mapping accuracy standards and QA/QC procedures.
  • Experience supporting airport, transportation, municipal, commercial, or large-scale topographic survey projects.
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate is a plus but not required.
