Job description

Grounds Maintenance

Job Overview

The Grounds Maintenance team member reports directly to the Grounds Supervisor at the location and is responsible for maintaining the landscape's appearance and for daily cemetery operations. This role requires the ability to work in a team-focused environment and independently to ensure the satisfaction of the families we serve.

Responsibilities

  • Plan the preparation of graves in a timely manner to follow the schedule of interments, entombments, and inurnments
  • Prepare grave spaces and perform mausoleum entombments
  • Knowledgeable of heavy equipment, including backhoe and dump trailer
  • Installation of lowering devices and outer burial containers
  • Place caskets in the mausoleum and utilize the mausoleum lift as needed
  • Place floral displays at interment sites following services
  • Installation of memorials and crypt or niche plates
  • Perform landscaping duties to include, but not limited to, planting, weed eating, and general lawn care maintenance around sidewalks, memorials, etc.
  • Light-duty, general maintenance of the funeral home and on-site buildings

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED achieved
  • Ability to work proactively and positively with staff and customers

  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of initiative
  • Valid driver’s license and clear driving record
  • Able to perform extensive manual labor
  • Ability to lift 60+ lbs. on your own
  • Ability to lift and bend frequently
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Hours: Monday – Saturday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm. Flexibility in scheduling is preferred
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays as needed
  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Coordinate all facets of services (internally and externally)

Work Conditions

  • Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors, regardless of weather conditions; cemetery personnel may have exposure to chemicals and equipment
  • Personal safety equipment or appropriate attire may be required for the cemetery or crematory environment. Cemetery team is provided with uniforms.
