WOODLAND CEMETERY SUPERINTENDENT

Description:

The Superintendent is the hands-on, working caretaker in charge of the maintenance, repair and other care of Woodland Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois, and all improvements thereon, including, but not limited to, the mausoleum, workshop and garage, office/ residential building, and other structures.

Compensation:

$50,000+ and health insurance

Full time

Job Details & Functions:

  • Complies with all Personnel Policies and regulations.
  • Adheres to and enforces safe work practices and follows safety policies and rules.
  • Treats the public and other employees in a respectful, courteous, and professional manner. Maintains a professional office and work environment. Assure all staff dress appropriately including pocket shirts and neat shorts or long pants and work shoes.
  • Works effectively and efficiently with funeral homes, burial service providers and decedents' families to effect burials.
  • Works cooperatively with the organizations interested in the preservation and promotion of historic Woodland Cemetery as authorized by the Woodland Association Board.
  • Superintendent's direct supervisor is the President of the Woodland Cemetery Association, and the superintendent reports to the Woodland Cemetery Association Board at least semi-annually.

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge and interest of landscape maintenance and plant care techniques.
  • Experience operating mowers, weed-eaters, blowers, etc.
  • Professional experience with parks and recreation management or athletic field management and/or lawn care.
  • Satisfactory plant identification skills.
  • Satisfactory plant pest and disease identification skills.
  • Knowledge and interest regarding preservation of grave monuments and practices that are destructive to them.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience in basic computer skills. Experience in computer data management for record keeping.
  • High school plus two years of education desired.
