Job description

Position Corporation: Catholic Cemeteries
Position Title: Laborer
Position Status: Union
General Description:
This position conducts basic grounds maintenance duties. The position starts as a 6-month position starting at $20/hr with the ability for increases within the 6-month period based on job performance. Successful candidates after 6-months will be offered a full-time position within the union with significant increase in salary amp; full benefits. Candidates with CEMETERY experience will take preference amp; given the ability to start full-time sooner than the 6-month period.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Learn the policies and procedures of the cemetery. Ensure that all services are conducted with dignity and respect to the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Responsible to the foremen of the respective cemetery.
  • Lawn amp; landscape maintenance including but not limited to: cutting amp; trimming of grass and shrubs, leaf pick-up, landscape bed maintenance, snow removal.
  • Proper use of all hand and motorized tools (once properly trained).
  • Notify foremen and/or mechanic of any operational concerns of tools.
  • Responsible for their surroundings when operating any machinery.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by foremen assisting with the care and maintenance of the cemetery.
Required Education, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must be a high school graduate.
  • Must be capable of performing a variety of physical tasks and movements including lifting up to 50 lbs. or more routinely.
  • Other physical tasks/movements include but are not limited to standing, pushing/pulling, walking, stooping, bending, climbing, driving, crawling, kneeling and squatting.
  • Must be able to use power tools and manual maintenance equipment
  • Must have people skills and be able to work well with others.
  • Project a positive and respectful image to co-workers and visitors.
  • Must display compassion and empathy in dealing with the loss of a family member
  • Experience in cemeteries is a plus.
