Job description

Position Summary
The Mid-Level Network Engineer supports the engineering, operation, and maintenance of FBI data communications networks — a transport-agnostic, globally deployable infrastructure providing secure voice, video, and data connectivity to FBI personnel during crises, special events, and major cases. The role combines hands-on engineering of Cisco and Linux routing platforms with planning, troubleshooting, and documentation support across LAN/MAN/WAN environments, including high-latency satellite and cellular transports. Functional Responsibilities Perform engineering, operation, and maintenance of data communications networks.
Engineer and support video teleconferencing (VTC) equipment and Voice over IP (VoIP) systems.
Engineer and support Cisco and Linux-based router platforms.
Engineer, configure, and support Cisco Access Control System (ACS), Cisco Call Manager, and Cisco Meeting Server.
Plan and monitor the installation of communications circuits.
Manage and monitor local area networks and associated equipment (routers, switches, gateways, etc.).
Conduct short- and long-term planning to meet communications requirements.
Assist with integration of service delivery arrangements across LANs, MANs, and WANs — including planning, design, installation, maintenance, management, and coordination of LAN/MAN/WAN interfaces with telecommunications service providers.
Identify and troubleshoot network issues across the infrastructure.
Aid in technical, architecture, and engineering changes to customer LANs/MANs/WANs.
Develop highly detailed network design diagrams and documentation for use by Government and contract staff.
Recommend technical solutions to management as a technical contributor with knowledge of local and wide-area networking, communications, and related hardware/software (bridges, gateways, routers, multiplexers, hubs). Required Qualifications / Experience Five (5) years supporting both Cisco and Linux routing platforms.
Seven (7) years planning, designing, and analyzing LANs overseeing implementation and test/troubleshooting, reviewing and approving design changes, documenting installed systems, and operating network management and control systems to maintain LAN hardware and software.
Demonstrated experience with operating systems and protocols including Cisco IOS and NX-OS, Linux routing technologies, OSPF/BGP, and VMware virtualization.
Cisco Call Manager and Access Control System configuration and administration.
Experience with network analysis/management tools and techniques; familiarity with PCs in a client/server environment.
Demonstrated experience supporting high-latency networks using satellite and cellular broadband transport.
Current Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), or equivalent, certification required.
