Cell/Molecular Biologist - (Research & Development Technology Hub) Team

Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the candidate will be to operate and support an automated system for the bulk isolation of human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). After proven success with the current system, the expectation is that it will lead to supporting future projects to automate processes which are currently manual. The role will be responsible for not only producing results but using their experience and abilities to analyze results in order to make recommendations to the scientific leaders of the studies. Method development will be a large part of the role when working with other departments.
Teamwork:
โ€ข Demonstrates exceptional ability to work with fellow lab/team members to schedule, coordinate, and execute the isolation of high quality PBMCs for downstream research applications.
โ€ข Displays problem-solving skills and the knowledge of inter- and intra-departmental roles and responsibilities for coordination of work activities.
โ€ข Regularly interfaces with scientists from different research areas as well as third party vendors such as blood suppliers.
Communication/Flexibility:
โ€ข Communicates with customers from other research areas as well as other lab/team members regarding scheduling, processing, and delivery of PBMCs.
โ€ข Takes initiative to record and communicate deviations in SOPs of PBMC isolation to any scientists who may be affected by said deviations.
โ€ข Diligent record keeping and updating internal databases will be required regularly in this role.
โ€ข Must have a strong understanding of the science and process to be able to articulate results and recommendations to leaders.
Lab Skills:
โ€ข Ability to work independently, with little supervision.
โ€ข Strong aseptic technique
โ€ข Experience in cell culture and general molecular biology laboratory techniques
โ€ข Ability to observe and decipher healthy cells from others.
โ€ข Ability to troubleshoot issues with cells as they arise.
โ€ข Preparation of mammalian cells for cryopreservation
โ€ข Ability to prepare various buffer solutions in bulk as needed.
โ€ข Processing, labeling, and delivering samples to individuals throughout the research community.
โ€ข Recording data in notebook, presenting in laboratory/project meetings
โ€ข Experience with laboratory technology and instrumentation including centrifuges, cell counters, Plate Readers, and automated liquid handlers.
โ€ข Ability to use knowledge and experience to apply new technologies to new processes.
Compliance:
โ€ข Ensures full compliance with all Lilly regulations, especially in regard to sterility, health, safety, and proper documentation.
Required Qualifications:
โ€ข Bachelor's degree with 1-3 years' experience in cell culture and/or molecular biology
OR
โ€ข Bio-Tech associate's degree with 3+ years relevant experience
โ€ข Previous experience working in the R&D space with proven abilities to recognize and make recommendations on the data when a set method is not in place.
Additional Skills/Preferences:
โ€ข Previous experience working with human blood, especially isolation of PBMCs.
โ€ข Experience with cryopreservation of biological samples
โ€ข Familiarity with laboratory technology and automation, particularly automated liquid handlers, flow cytometry, imaging and microscopy instrumentation
โ€ข Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
โ€ข Flexibility and adaptability to a changing work environment with changing priorities
โ€ข Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and time-management skills
โ€ข Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to document experiments clearly and according to Good Research Practice principles.
โ€ข General computer skills including Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel
