The Department of Cell Biology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is dedicated to excellence and innovation in research and education of research scientists and physicians. We seek candidates with a strong research background in cell biology or related fields, including molecular biology, developmental biology, stem cell biology, or imaging and bioinformatics.

The department is home for the administration of the graduate program inMolecular Cell and Developmental Biology, an interdepartmental program that includes faculty from many other basic science and clinical departments and confers Ph.D. degrees. Cell Biology faculty with funded research programs also play active roles in several different Ph.D. programs in the medical school, i.e. Cancer Biology, Neuroscience and others. These roles include graduate student mentoring and lecturing in graduate classes and course organization.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree, with a record of significant research accomplishments and potential for academic leadership. We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic community and encourage applications from individuals underrepresented in science.

Position Summary:

The Department of Cell Biology at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine is expanding its faculty and recruiting broadly in areas of basic biomedical sciences including but not limited to synthetic and systems biology, molecular biology and genetics, quantitative systems biology, virology/immunology, and developmental biology and cancer. Areas of interest are expansive and include fundamental discovery, creating novel experimental tools (e.g., imaging approaches), and developing innovative therapeutic strategies (e.g., for emerging pathogens, chronic diseases, or neoplasms). We encourage applications from candidates with outstanding research programs at all levels, regardless of domain of expertise.

The candidate must be able to seek and obtain extramural funding, preferably federal funding and be able to publish in high impact scientific journals in their respective field of research. The faculty member will be responsible for teaching and mentoring graduate students as well as postdoctoral and medical fellows. Must be able to successfully establish and manage an independent research group. A competitive start-up package will be provided to assist with this.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The appointee is expected to use some creativity and latitude in performing research tasks.

  • Will contribute to basic and applied research activities, participate in the publication of significant results, and advance their expertise through education, training and/or research experience.

  • Seek extramural research funding

  • Mentor graduate students, as well as postdoctoral associates

  • Publication of research papers

  • Service to the department and the scientific community

  • Present at national and international meetings

  • Analyze and summarize data in original manuscripts, reviews, book chapters, editorials, and patents applications.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Applicants should have a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent, and should be able to effectively contribute to both the research and the teaching missions of the Department of Cell Biology. Quality research facilities, significant start-up funds, and salary support will be provided commensurate with the rank.

Interested applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, statement describing research accomplishments and future research goals, relevant reprints, and the names of three references.
