What We Look For In a High School Science Tutor
  • Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science concepts covered at the high school level including cell biology, genetics, chemical reactions, forces and motion, energy, and earth systems. Ability to explain scientific principles, laboratory techniques, and data analysis methods while preparing students for AP science courses, Regents examinations, and college science prerequisites.
  • Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving: Skilled at breaking down complex scientific concepts, mathematical problem-solving in science contexts, and laboratory procedure execution. Guides students through designing experiments, analyzing quantitative data, writing laboratory reports, and applying scientific reasoning to real-world problems. Emphasizes connecting theory to practice and developing scientific literacy across biology, chemistry, and physics disciplines.
  • Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with high school science curricula across disciplines and common challenges such as balancing chemical equations, understanding genetics problems, and applying physics formulas. Adapts instruction using virtual and hands-on labs, visual models, and cross-disciplinary connections to support students from general science through honors and pre-AP levels preparing for college STEM programs.
  • Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
  • Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
