Location: Fort Worth, TX Salary: $50.00 USD Hourly - $55.00 USD Hourly Description: Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Akamai Platform Engineer to support the management, optimization, and security of enterprise web applications delivered through the Akamai platform. This individual will play a key role in onboarding applications, enhancing performance, optimizing traffic delivery, and implementing security controls across a large-scale enterprise environment.
The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Akamai technologies, Content Delivery Networks (CDN), edge security, web application protection, and traffic management. This is a hands-on engineering role that requires strong troubleshooting skills, stakeholder communication, and the ability to balance performance, availability, and security requirements.
Key Responsibilities
  • Administer, configure, and support the Akamai platform across multiple business-critical web applications.
  • Define and execute application onboarding activities for new and existing services.
  • Design and maintain Akamai delivery configurations to improve website performance, resiliency, and user experience.
  • Implement and manage CDN strategies to optimize content delivery and reduce latency.
  • Configure and maintain traffic management policies, load balancing rules, and routing strategies.
  • Support edge security initiatives including web application protection, DDoS mitigation, bot defense, and secure application delivery.
  • Collaborate with application owners, network teams, infrastructure teams, and cybersecurity stakeholders to deploy and support web-facing applications.
  • Monitor platform performance and proactively identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Troubleshoot application delivery issues, caching problems, SSL/TLS configurations, DNS challenges, and security incidents.
  • Develop documentation, standards, and operational procedures related to Akamai services.
  • Participate in change management and production support activities.
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience supporting Akamai technologies in a production enterprise environment.
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Akamai CDN
    • Akamai Property Manager
    • Akamai Edge DNS
    • Traffic optimization and routing
    • Content caching strategies
    • Web performance tuning
  • Strong understanding of:
    • HTTP/HTTPS
    • DNS
    • TLS/SSL certificates
    • Content Delivery Networks
    • Load balancing concepts
    • Web application architecture
  • Experience troubleshooting website availability, latency, and content delivery issues.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
  • Akamai certifications strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Akamai security solutions including:
    • Kona Site Defender
    • Web Application Firewall (WAF)
    • DDoS Protection
    • Bot Management
    • API Security
  • Experience supporting large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Familiarity with automation and scripting using PowerShell, Python, REST APIs, or Terraform.
  • Understanding of DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code methodologies.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
