Job description

Position Overview

We are a well-established scrap metal recycling company serving the St. Louis Metropolitan area. . We are currently seeking a Local CDL Class A Driver to join our union workforce.


Job Summary

The CDL Class A Driver will be responsible for safely transporting scrap metal using company-owned trucks within the local area. This is a union position that offers stable work, full benefits, and a strong emphasis on safety and compliance.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate a Class A vehicle (van, open-top, roll-off, flatbed, or dump trailer) to transport scrap metal between customer sites, scrap yards, and processing facilities.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and report maintenance issues promptly.
  • Load and unload containers or trailers as required; assist with securing loads to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Maintain accurate logs and delivery paperwork in accordance with DOT and company standards.
  • Follow all safety procedures and environmental regulations.
  • Communicate with dispatch and customers in a professional and timely manner.
  • Comply with union work rules, schedules, and job assignments.


Specifications


  • Proven work experience as a truck driver 

  • Hands on experience with electronic equipment and software (GPS)

  • Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations

  • Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions, etc.)

  • Willing to submit to background/drug checks

  • Valid truck driving license – CDL Class A


Requirements

  • Valid CDL Class A license with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum 2 years of commercial driving experience (preferably in the scrap or waste industry).
  • Experience with roll-off trucks, dump trailers, or flatbeds is highly preferred.
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and local traffic laws.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in outdoor environments.
  • Dependable, safety-conscious, and customer-service oriented.
