Typical vehicles include straight trucks, box trucks, dump trucks, and some buses. CDL B drivers are responsible for safely transporting goods or passengers, following traffic laws, and conducting pre-trip inspections. This license is commonly required for delivery drivers, school bus drivers, and construction vehicle operators.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CDL B driver?

Job description

Title: CDL B Driver
Location: Rochester, NY, US
Salary: $25-$28/hour
Looking for a CDL driving job where you’re more than just a wheel-holder? At Kozel Steel, our crane truck drivers are skilled operators who own the delivery — loading, securing, transporting, and placing structural steel exactly where our customers need it. You’ll work with our narrow-cab trucks fitted with knuckle boom cranes, run local routes across Monroe County and western New York, and be home every night. Full training is provided, and we’ll pay for your NCCCO crane operator certification.

About Kozel Steel

Kozel Steel is a leading supplier of structural steel to Monroe County and western New York. We’re a stable, well-established operation where solid work is recognized and good people stick around. Our drivers are the face of our business in the field — a job we take seriously.

What You’ll Do

  • Load steel onto your truck using our overhead bridge cranes (training provided)

  • Secure cargo properly for safe over-the-road transport

  • Deliver product to customer job sites — typically across Monroe County and western NY

  • Set up and unload at job sites using your truck-mounted knuckle boom crane

  • Represent Kozel Steel directly with customers on site

  • Comply with all NYS Department of Transportation regulations

What We’re Looking For

  • Valid CDL Class B license; able to operate a manual (standard) transmission

  • Clean driving record; able to pass DOT physical and drug screen
  • Self-starter who can work independently and make sound decisions in the field

  • Customer-friendly attitude — you’ll be the face of Kozel on every delivery

  • Able to lift, push, and pull at least 50 pounds

  • Willing to work outdoors year-round in Rochester weather

Helpful, Not Required

  • Prior crane experience (mobile, knuckle boom, or overhead bridge)

  • NCCCO certification (we’ll help you get it if you don’t have one)

  • Forklift experience

  • Hydraulic equipment experience

  • Structural steel fabrication background

What We Offer

  • Competitive hourly pay: depending on experience

  • Home every night — no overnight runs or extended routes

  • Year-round work — no seasonal layoffs

  • Paid NCCCO certification and ongoing crane operator training

  • Health and dental insurance

  • 401(k) with company match and profit sharing

  • Paid holidays and vacation
