The environment requires heightened vigilance, adherence to strict protocols, and effective communication with custody staff. Additionally, CNAs must demonstrate empathy and professionalism while navigating the complexities of inmate behavior and potential medical emergencies within a secure setting. Teamwork with nurses, correctional officers, and other healthcare professionals is crucial to ensure both patient care and institutional safety.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CDCR CNA?

To thrive as a CDCR CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation), you need a valid CNA certification, strong knowledge of basic nursing care, and familiarity with correctional healthcare protocols.
