Job Description This role serves as the enterprise operational leader for the UC Health (UCH) Cancer Service Line, partnering in a formal dyad with the Cancer Center Director (or Deputy Director as designee) to ensure alignment of clinical, academic, research, and operational priorities. The role is accountable for enterprise operational execution across the cancer continuum-including access, capacity, throughput, staffing, capital deployment, financial performance, and patient experience-while supporting operational readiness and infrastructure required to achieve and sustain National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation. Responsibilities Strategy, Integration, and Execution: Leads development and execution of short and long-range operating plans aligned with Cancer Center strategy.
Translates strategic priorities into executable access, growth, and capacity plans across infusion, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, and ambulatory clinics. Ensures integration across UC Health, UC Physicians, UC College of Medicine, and UC Cancer Center through disciplined governance and clear decision rights. Develops and executes cancer-specific capital plans and business cases aligned with enterprise return thresholds.
Operational Leadership and Performance Accountability: Accountable for access, throughput, demand-capacity matching, labor productivity, and margin performance. Oversees clinical operations across the cancer continuum (prevention through survivorship). Uses dashboards, operating reviews, and defined KPIs to drive sustained improvement in quality, experience, growth, and financial performance.
Partners with Finance, IS&T, and Analytics to ensure availability of actionable data and forward-looking performance insights. Dyad Partnership and Academic Alignment: Works in formal dyad with the Cancer Center Director to ensure alignment of operational infrastructure with academic, research, and CCSG priorities. Supports recruitment planning and program development in partnership with Cancer Center leadership.
Ensures operational readiness in support of NCI designation and sustained compliance with related performance metrics. Community Engagement and External Representation: Actively represents UC Health and the Cancer Center in the community. Develops relationships with referring providers, community partners, and regional stakeholders to promote program growth and brand strength.
Supports philanthropic, outreach, and partnership initiatives aligned with Cancer Center priorities. Leadership and Talent Development: Leads and develops service line leadership team. Operates effectively within a highly matrixed academic medical center environment.
Builds strong collaborative relationships across clinical, academic, and administrative stakeholders. Qualifications Minimum Required: Bachelor's Degree, and 10 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare operations, preferably within an academic medical center or complex cancer enterprise. Preferred: Master's Degree.
