Job description

Industrial Coatings Technician

The Industrial Coatings Technician is responsible for preparing surfaces and applying industrial coatings and paints, ensuring compliance with NACE specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements including performing corrosion control on tanks, piping, vessels, and other industrial equipment. This role ensures work is performed safely, meets client specifications, and maintains the integrity and longevity of equipment in harsh North Slope conditions.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Prepare surfaces to be coated and painted to NACE standards, including Bristle Blasting and Media Blasting, insulation replacement and repair.
  • Conduct Abrasive blasting, grinding, and cleaning of tanks, piping, and industrial equipment.
  • Apply protective coatings to Interior/exterior surfaces of tanks and vessels, FBE coatings on piping and road crossings, polyurea and/or polyurethane to Roofs and Tank exterior.
  • Inspect surfaces for defects and ensure proper coating adhesion and coverage.
  • Maintain and demonstrate proficient working knowledge of all equipment related to industrial painting and coating
  • Initiate problem solving and perform repairs on any coating equipment, in a timely manner and within the boundaries of previous training.
  • Construct minor scaffolding or platforms in accordance with federal regulations.
  • Communicate daily status of current projects to Lead Technician to ensure all projects are timely and within company and contractor standards.
  • Ability to read product specifications and apply protective coatings to meet specifications.
  • Maintain 100% "Safety Standards and Accountability" in all areas or mandatory/regulatory requirements, which include:
    • Maintain compliance with the required HSE Training.
    • Taking necessary action when behaviors or conditions around you may be unsafe.
    • Reporting and addressing all potential safety concerns/incidents/issues promptly and willingly participate and assist in any investigation that may relate to a safety incident.
    • Performs work in strict compliance with permitting requirements, Alaska Safety Handbook (ASH) Standards and other compliance-oriented directives.
    • Participating in safety meetings, working safely, and maintaining a safe work environment as an employee and representative of CCI Industrial Services.
    • Document and record any injury or near miss incident that may occur while you are working.
    • Demonstrate and promote safe work practices by participating in JSA reviews, pre-job walkdowns and safety START card preparations covering work activities and materials required by the company and the client.
    • Promote and participate in Safety Programs.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to perform job functions while using a respirator (full face).
  • Knowledge of different types of industrial coatings and paints and ability to apply to meet specifications.
  • Knowledgeable of specific application requirements for different types of coatings, primers and paints; able to use paint application equipment.
  • Ability to work well with others in an environment that includes harsh weather conditions, remote locations and diverse personalities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years old
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • A valid driver's license
  • NSTC card
  • Current Alaska Hazardous Paint Card.
  • SSPC or equivalent Coating's certification.
  • 2 plus years of blasting & coating experience to include blasting equipment, airless and conventional sprays.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiar with industrial coating applications (spec. work).
  • 2 + years on plural machines.
  • 40 Hour HAZWOPER or 8 Hour HAZWOPER Refresher certificate within 30 days.

Work Environment:

  • Position may be exposed to extremely hostile weather conditions at times while working outdoors.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works at the construction site. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
  • Position may be working with potentially hazardous materials and wastes.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles in a mechanical shop environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Hearing protection and the use of safety eyewear is required in most working situations.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. A pre-hire post offer physical including respirator fit test and audiogram will be conducted to determine an employee's ability to perform to the job standard. FCE LEVEL #3

  • MOBILITY: Must be able to access all controls and all parts of machinery for service. Must be able to push/pull 50 pounds for 20 feet.
  • LIFTING: Must be able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, 50 pounds from waist level to shoulder height and carry 50 pounds for 20 feet.
  • HEARING: Must be able to hear audible safety alarms.
  • VISUAL ACUITY: Must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner and take hand signals from ground man or flag man.
  • RANGE OF MOTION: An objective range of motion measurements will be conducted and recorded using a five position and rapid exchange grip strength test during the pre-hire/post offer FCE.

Offer contingent upon ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and a background check.
