Job description

Position Overview

The Driver is responsible for the safe and timely delivery and pickup of meals, food products, and program supplies to childcare centers, schools, and summer meal sites across our service area. This position is critical to ensuring that participants in CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) and SFSP (Summer Food Service Program) receive nutritious meals without interruption. Drivers maintain vehicle integrity, follow all safety protocols, and represent CBS Food Program professionally within our partner communities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate vehicle safely and efficiently to deliver meals and supplies to 20+ assigned sites per route
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; report maintenance issues immediately to supervisor
  • Load and unload food products and supplies with care, maintaining proper food safety and handling standards
  • Verify delivery accuracy by checking manifests and site-specific meal counts before departure and upon arrival
  • Maintain legible delivery logs and obtain required signatures/documentation at each site
  • Communicate professionally with site directors, kitchen managers, and administrative staff
  • Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, vehicle safety regulations, and CBS Food Program safety policies
  • Protect the confidentiality of children, families, and partner organizations encountered on delivery routes
  • Notify supervisor of route delays, delivery issues, or site concerns in real time via SMS or phone
  • Perform vehicle cleaning and basic housekeeping to keep delivery vehicle sanitary and professional
  • Collaborate with warehouse team on inventory management and efficient loading sequences
  • Support program expansion and troubleshooting at assigned sites within operational scope


Required Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license (PA or equivalent, non-CDL adequate for typical delivery vehicle)
  • Clean driving record (no serious violations in past 3–5 years; subject to review)
  • Proof of automobile insurance and ability to pass background check (required for child-serving role)
  • Ability to lift, carry, and stack food boxes safely (up to 40–50 lbs) on a daily basis
  • Physical capacity to walk, bend, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Excellent time management, route planning, and organizational skills
  • Professional communication and customer service orientation
  • Basic literacy and numeracy to complete delivery logs and verify meal counts


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience driving commercial or delivery routes
  • Familiarity with federal nutrition programs (CACFP, SFSP, SNAP)
  • Knowledge of Bucks, Montgomery, Philadelphia, and Delaware County geography
  • Experience with food safety and warehouse operations
  • Bilingual capabilities (English and Spanish preferred)


Working Conditions

  • Regular morning starts (5:00–6:00 AM) to meet early delivery windows at childcare and school sites
  • Route completion typically by early afternoon (12:00–2:00 PM)
  • Operating vehicle in all weather conditions (rain, snow, heat)
  • Significant driving throughout multi-county service area
  • Frequent customer interaction and professional public presence
  • Occasional overtime or adjusted hours during peak seasonal periods
