What is a CBRF and how can I get a job in one with no experience?

A CBRF, or Community-Based Residential Facility, is a type of assisted living environment that provides care and supervision for adults who need help with daily activities but do not require full-time nursing care. Many CBRFs hire individuals with no prior experience, offering on-the-job training to help new employees learn about resident care, medication administration, and safety procedures. To get started, you typically need a high school diploma or GED and must pass a background check. Some facilities may require you to complete state-approved training before or shortly after being hired.

What are the typical responsibilities for someone starting in a CBRF (Community-Based Residential Facility) role with no prior experience?

Entry-level CBRF staff members are primarily responsible for supporting residents with daily living activities, such as meal preparation, housekeeping, and assisting with personal hygiene. They also help monitor residents' well-being, document care provided, and communicate changes to supervisory staff. While initial tasks focus on direct care and supervision, new hires receive on-the-job training and mentorship from more experienced team members, making it a supportive environment for those new to the field.
