Job description

ABS Global, a Genus PLC Company, has an exciting opportunity for an OPU & Embryo Transfer Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for performing ovum pick-up (OPU) and embryo transfer (ET) procedures that support IVF production objectives and customer reproductive success. The Specialist will work directly with donor and recipient cattle, perform reproductive evaluations, maintain specialized reproductive equipment, and collaborate with laboratory and field teams to achieve production, quality, and animal welfare goals. This position requires technical expertise, attention to detail, a strong commitment to biosecurity and safety, and the ability to travel in support of operations.

  • Perform all aspects of OPU procedures, including ovarian ultrasound scanning, follicular identification, synchronization, aspiration, and oocyte retrieval to meet production goals.
  • Execute embryo transfer procedures using both fresh and frozen IVF embryos in cows and heifer recipients.
  • Conduct reproductive evaluations through rectal palpation and ultrasound to assess donor and recipient suitability and maximize reproductive outcomes.
  • Prepare, assemble, operate, and maintain OPU and ET equipment, including ultrasound machines, vacuum pumps, collection systems, incubators, thaw baths, and embryo transfer equipment.
  • Maintain strict sanitation, sterilization, and biosecurity protocols across all procedures and equipment.
  • Administer epidural anesthesia and follow all livestock handling, animal welfare, and workplace safety protocols.
  • Accurately record and manage data related to oocyte collection, embryo transfer procedures, donor performance, and recipient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with OPU, ET, and laboratory teams to coordinate donor and recipient schedules and achieve production objectives.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, quality, and reproductive performance.
  • Provide training and mentorship to new team members while promoting professionalism, teamwork, and animal welfare standards.
  • Uphold the Genus core values, mission, and vision.
  • Position may require travel and work responsibilities outside of normal business hours.
  • Perform other projects and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Associate's degree, Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience in Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, Agriculture, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with cattle and livestock handling practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate recordkeeping.
  • Ability to safely perform physical work in agricultural and livestock environments.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with bovine reproductive technologies, including embryo transfer, ovum pick-up (OPU), IVF programs, reproductive ultrasound, or related procedures.
  • Experience administering reproductive treatments and conducting reproductive evaluations.
  • Knowledge of cattle reproduction, herd management, and animal health practices.
  • Previous experience training or mentoring team members.
  • Proficiency with data entry and production record management systems.
