Postdoctoral Associate in Dairy Cattle Biology

Position Function: The sustainability of milk production depends on the ability of dairy producers to utilize safe and effective cutting‑edge technologies that enhance the efficiency of milk production while preventing a negative environmental impact. We seek a Postdoctoral Associate in Dairy Cattle Biology to focus on evaluating the effects of novel feed additive technology on milk production efficiency and enteric methane emissions.

The Postdoctoral Associate will join a laboratory team focused on improving dairy cattle nutrition and milk production efficiency and reducing enteric methane emissions. The successful applicant will be charged with managing large data sets derived from a wide range of animal experiments to identify relationships between nutrition, milk production, and methane emissions.

Anticipated Division of Time
  • Organize and analyze large data sets from methane mitigation trials (60%).
  • Lead in‑vivo studies to develop novel technologies aimed at reducing methane emissions and enhancing the efficiency of nutrient utilization (20%).
  • Collaborate with Cornell scientists focused on livestock methane to support projects that rely on animal‑derived data (10%).
  • Disseminate results and findings through peer‑reviewed papers and conference presentations (10%).
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Animal Science, Veterinary Science, Data Science or related field.
  • Experience studying and working with large data sets.
  • Experience studying and caring for dairy cattle.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to meet the travel requirements of the position and have reliable transportation as well as a valid and unrestricted New York State driver’s license. Employees must be registered with Agile/Fleet Commander.
Preferred
  • Established experience studying enteric methane production and mitigation.
  • Strong statistical background.
Position Details

This is a full‑time position located in Ithaca, New York. It is a 1‑year appointment with an option to extend for a year, contingent upon available funding and successful performance.

Salary: $63,480.
