Job description

Description
The Transit Vehicle Operator at Pike CAC will work closely with the Transportation Operations Manager, Transit Operations Specialist, and Transit Operations Clerk to provide safe and reliable transportation to Pike County.
Functional Area: Transit Operations Estimated Effort: 60%
  • Drive safely in various settings including, but not limited to, large cities, interstate, highways, and rural areas.
  • Complete bus driver training courses, meetings, or conferences through the Ohio Department of Transportation or its affiliate related to the job duties of the CATS position.
  • Maintain required records and handle confidential information in a professional manner.
  • Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor with customers and promote a positive reflection of CAC and CATS.
  • Attend mandatory driver meetings and complete trainings as assigned by the Transportation Operations Manager or the Director of Senior and Transportation Programs.
  • Provide coverage as needed in the CATS office answering phones, scheduling, and dispatching.
  • Report hazardous road conditions to dispatcher.
  • Assist with training new staff as assigned by the Transportation Operations Manager.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with the use of tablet, iPad, and commercial 2-way radio.

Functional Area: Safety and Sanitation Estimated Effort: 30%
  • Perform mandatory daily pre-trip inspection of vehicles before operation.
  • Keep assigned vehicle neat and clean at all times. Vehicles must be sanitized and disinfected each time the bus is emptied and every evening once returned to base.
  • Complete bus/vehicle washing and detailing as assigned.
  • Fill out defective equipment reports and ensure they are addressed promptly and appropriately; inform appropriate personnel, including the Transit Operations Manager or Vehicle Mechanic, of required maintenance.

Functional Area: Agency Service Estimated Effort: 10%
  • Participate in CAC Committee assignments and other agency service duties as assigned.
  • Serve as liaison between all passengers and the Transportation Program.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Job-Related Experience: Valid Ohio Driver's License, clean driving record, and insurability under agency policy.
  • Completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol test and criminal background check.
  • Must pass DOT physical examination.
  • People Management Experience: Friendly, professional, and courteous demeanor.
  • Licenses, Certifications, and Accreditations: First Aid, CPR, and Bloodborne Pathogen training within six (6) months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • CDL with Passenger Endorsement.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office.
  • Preference given to individuals with driving and/or transportation experience.

Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds and assist passengers requiring help with mobility devices.
  • May be exposed to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and parasites.
  • Variable weather driving conditions.
  • Position will be required to submit to random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Occasional evening and weekend travel/work is required.
