The Opportunity

Black & Veatch has an exciting opportunity to join our growing coatings and linings practice as part of our Infrastructure Advisory Technical Delivery team. This role supports a diverse portfolio of projects focused on pipelines, tanks, and related infrastructure across water, electric, and power generation clients.

Within our coatings practice, we continue to see strong demand driven by aging infrastructure and the need for improved understanding of asset condition and performance. Coatings and linings play a critical role in extending asset life and improving system reliability.

This position provides the opportunity to:

  • Contribute to meaningful projects by supporting field investigations, evaluating corrosion risks, and developing practical solutions for asset integrity and long-term performance.
  • Work closely with experienced engineers and field specialists across our national practice, gaining hands-on experience in cathodic protection systems, condition assessment technologies, and data-driven decision making.
  • Contribute to delivering projects for a wide range of clients, including water, electric, and power generation utilities.
  • Participate in field investigations, data analysis, and engineering evaluations of infrastructure assets, supporting corrosion control and condition assessment activities for pipelines, tanks, and related facilities.
  • Work in both field and office environments, developing practical and analytical skills in corrosion engineering and cathodic protection systems.
  • Build technical depth while contributing to project delivery for a wide range of clients.

The Team

Black & Veatch's Infrastructure Advisory Business provides a portfolio of solutions focused on the asset lifecycle, including Asset Management & Operations & Maintenance, Infrastructure Technology, Cybersecurity solutions, Planning and Transactions. In this role you will be part of the Consulting Team supporting Solutions including Condition Assessment, Maintenance Management, and Strategic Asset Management.

The Consultant Team is a diverse team of professionals who are given a wide range of technical projects and skills to equip them to have a solid foundation and move into a specific career track as they advance and develop their skills and capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret and evaluate results in terms of existing codes, standards, and specifications.
  • Support coatings delivery for assigned scopes (field planning, site execution, documentation, and closeout) with increasing independence over time.
  • Develop recommendations and conclusions that are both technically sound and commercially/constructability aware (cost, schedule, risk, and practicality of execution).
  • Create, edit, and maintain coatings deliverables such as coating specifications, work plans/work packages, repair recommendations, inspection plans, and closeout documentation.
  • Demonstrate a broad market and technical background across multiple asset/coating types and project phases (assessment to specification to field execution to reporting/closeout).
  • Perform or assist with inspection and assessment of a wide range of asset and coating types, including SFRM/IFRM, waterproofing, CFRP, PUF, and CML. 
  • Assist in development and/or modification of specifications and procedures to the extent that they conform to existing or improved quality levels.
  • Ensure compliance with technical specifications, contractual requirements, and purchase order requirements.
  • Assist with technical customer support including leading support for customer audits.
  • Oversee review of technical documents for material specifications and submittals.
  • Review drawing/document changes for compliance with applicable regulations and standards

  • NACE/AMPP coating certification
  • 4+ years of experience with coatings, corrosion control, condition assessment, or similar infrastructure work
  • Strong working knowledge of corrosion, surface preparation/cleanliness, environmental conditions, test instruments, coating application, and safety.
  • Able to review technical documents (material specs, submittals, drawings, and document changes) and ensure compliance with contractual and purchase order requirements.
  • Able to generate technical reports and communicate regularly with PMs/corrosion teams.
  • Strong computer proficiency (Microsoft Office) and strong written/verbal communication.
  • Willing and able to travel approximately 15 %domestically and internationally if needed.
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or closely related field
  • Nace/AMPP Certified Coatings Inspector certification or equivalent
  • Nondestructive Testing (NDT), API, and CWI experience
  • Experience with coating and lining system design
  • Experience working in a consulting environment
  • Strong time management and organizational skills

Certifications

Work Environment/Physical Demands

This position will be based out of Black & Veatch office location within the United States. 

Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
