Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health is the first new full-service hospital in Washington, DC in more than 20 years, integrating clinical care with existing community providers, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC’s), The George Washington University Hospital, and our Urgent Care Center in Ward 8. This integrated delivery system is a robust network of care for all District residents, but more importantly, it ensures that residents of Wards 7 and 8 have access to high quality care in their community.

This full-service hospital includes 136 beds (with the ability to expand to 184 beds), a verified trauma center, adult and pediatric emergency departments, maternal health and newborn delivery, an ambulatory pavilion for clinic visits and other outpatient services, a 500-car garage, and a helipad for emergency transport.

We are seeking a Registered Nurse - Cardiac Cath Lab/Interventional Radiology (Speical Procedures) (Full Time)

The Cardiac Cath Lab / Interventional Radiology RN provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic, interventional, and minimally invasive cardiovascular and radiology procedures. This role collaborates closely with physicians, technologists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, high-quality patient care before, during, and after procedures. The RN is responsible for patient assessment, procedural support, sedation monitoring, recovery care, and emergency response within the Cath Lab and Interventional Radiology environment.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients undergoing cardiac catheterization and interventional radiology procedures.
  • Prepare patients for procedures by reviewing medical history, obtaining informed consent verification, initiating IV access, and providing patient/family education.
  • Monitor patients during procedures, including hemodynamic monitoring, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and moderate sedation administration/monitoring in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Assist physicians during procedures such as angiograms, angioplasty, stent placement, thrombectomy, embolization, biopsies, vascular interventions, and other minimally invasive procedures.
  • Operate and monitor specialized equipment including hemodynamic monitoring systems, contrast injectors, and emergency resuscitation equipment.
  • Recognize and respond to complications or emergencies, including arrhythmias, respiratory distress, bleeding, or cardiac arrest situations.
  • Provide post-procedure recovery care, including sheath removal, hemostasis management, monitoring for complications, and discharge education.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record.
  • Adhere to infection prevention, radiation safety, and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, and department competency programs.

Qualifications

Requirements: 

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • DC RN License required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent critical care, emergency department, Cath Lab, IR, or procedural nursing experience preferred.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • Requires ONS/ONCC certification.

Skills: 

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. 
  • Effective interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Ability to adapt to multiple and changing priorities. 
  • Understanding of different types of infusions, including blood products, chemotherapy, and total parenteral nutrition (TPN).
  • Proficiency in placing peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVs) and managing central venous access devices (CVADs).
  • Comprehensive understanding of medications used in infusion therapies.
  • Strict adherence to infection control protocols when administering infusions.
