Catering servers distribute food and beverages to guests at an event. Before the event, you prepare the tables, set up food arrangements, and confirm what station or foods you need to serve when guests arrive. Your specific job assignments may include wandering through the crowd during cocktails, passing out appetizers; standing at one dish at a buffet station, serving a portion to guests as they pass through the line; or delivering plates to tables at full-service meals. You may also walk around pouring water, wine, and other beverages for guests, or you may take drink orders. Once the event is over, you tear down the food stations and help clean up in the venue and the kitchen. Catering servers may work for catering companies or for a banquet or event venue.
