Job description

The banquet server will serve the guests needs by providing exceptional knowledge of food & beverage menu items, as well as, information regarding preparation methods. They also assist in set-up of linen, china, glass, silver, and buffets/ food displays for each function in accordance with The Umstead Hotel standards.

*pay range includes tips*

Pay starts at $7.50/hour plus a percentage of the banquet service charge

The basic functions of this position are:

  • Report to work at the scheduled time, neatly groomed and in a clean uniform.
  • Participates in the service and removal of food during banquet
    functions by offering pre-determined menu selections to each table; maintaining
    knowledge of each selection's, origin, taste, and preparation method;
    communicating guest orders including any special needs or requests to the
    kitchen; checking completed kitchen orders with the guest's original order;
    transporting items to the guest table in a timely manner to ensure proper food
    quality and making self available to guests, clients, and group contacts to
    ensure satisfaction.
  • Setting up, maintaining, inventorying and breaking down all beverage breaks and food buffets/ food displays
  • Setting up of linen, china, glass, silver, for each function according to the banquet event order.
  • Anticipate guest needs, ascertain satisfaction, and respond urgently and appropriately to guest concerns and requests.
  • Being able to consistently perform tasks within a given time frame to insure all event components are setup on time.
  • Being able to consistently perform tasks with little direct supervision.
  • Maintain the back of the house cleanliness and safety
  • Comply with The Umstead Hotel & Spa Vision and Values.
  • Work harmoniously and professionally with co-workers and supervisors.
  • In addition, other duties may be required as directed by your Manager.
  • High School education or equivalent required
  • 1-2 years banquet or restaurant server experience in an upscale hotel, restaurant, or country club. Previous four or five star banquet serving experience preferred.
  • Must be able to work a flexible shift that includes nights, weekends and holidays
  • Must be able to continuously stand/ walk a minimum of 8 hours
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. over the course of a shift.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, push and pull over the course of a shift.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
  • All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per The Umstead Hotel standards.
  • Will be occasionally required to perform job functions outdoors and be exposed to sun, heat, humidity and other element
