What is a private bartender?

Private bartenders are professional mixologists who are hired to serve drinks at private events such as parties, weddings, or corporate gatherings. Unlike bartenders who work in bars or restaurants, private bartenders typically work on a freelance or contract basis and may travel to different venues as needed. Their responsibilities include setting up the bar area, mixing and serving beverages, creating custom cocktails, and sometimes helping with menu planning or drink selection. They also ensure responsible alcohol service and may assist with cleanup after the event. Hiring a private bartender can enhance the guest experience and allow hosts to enjoy their event without worrying about beverage service.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a private bartender, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Private Bartender, you need excellent mixology skills, knowledge of drink recipes, and often certification in responsible beverage service. Familiarity with bar tools, POS systems, and inventory management software is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, discretion, and adaptability help you deliver exceptional guest experiences and handle diverse private event settings. These abilities ensure professional, safe, and memorable service, which is crucial for client satisfaction and repeat business.

What are some common challenges private bartenders face when working at events or in clients' homes?

Private bartenders often need to adapt quickly to different environments, as every event or client's home can present unique layouts and available equipment. You may need to bring your own tools, create makeshift bars, or manage limited storage and refrigeration. Additionally, since you often work independently or with minimal staff, strong organizational and communication skills are crucial for managing guest expectations and delivering excellent service. Flexibility and problem-solving abilities are essential to ensure smooth operations and guest satisfaction in these varied settings.

Bartender | Intown Golf Club | Raleigh, NC ($28.00 / hour + Premium Benefits & Perks Available)

Craft an elevated beverage experience behind our bar. At Intown Golf Club (IGC), we are rewriting the script for private social clubs and luxury lifestyle brands. We are currently seeking a bright, focused Bartender to lead our beverage program on the floor. If you take pride in offering guests a diverse, seasonally inspired menu, warm conversation, and elite hospitality within a premium environment that respects your work-life balance, your next chapter starts here.

What You'll Do:

  • Elevated Mixology: Mix, garnish, and serve premium alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, showcasing a deep knowledge of cocktails, beer, wine, and food pairings.

  • Member Engagement: Interact directly with members and guests, assessing their preferences, making expert menu recommendations, and nurturing a world-class bar experience.

  • Bar Operations: Plan and present the bar menu, manage daily bar inventory, and restock supplies efficiently to ensure seamless shift execution.

  • Compliance & Cleanliness: Maintain a pristine, organized, and deeply clean bar environment. Strictly check identifications to meet legal drinking ages and enforce total compliance with all local, state, federal, and IGC liquor regulations.

What You Bring:

  • The Background: Minimum of 2+ years of dedicated bartending experience within an upscale casual restaurant, fine dining establishment, luxury hotel, or private club.

  • The Skills: Deep expertise in premium cocktail creation, excellent physical stamina (ability to walk, stand, and carry heavy trays), and top-tier organizational abilities.

  • The Attitude: A friendly, attentive, and highly professional demeanor with a natural passion for elevated hospitality.

  • The Guardrails: Must be the minimum legal age required to serve alcohol and have full willingness to work peak club hours, including evenings, holidays, and weekends.

The IGC Team Perks:

  • Premium Wages: Highly competitive, stable $28.00/hour (true up) pay structure.

  • Benefits: Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance plans available.

  • Modern Wellness: 24/7, no-cost Teladoc services covering Mental Health Counseling, Physical Therapy, and Dermatology.

  • True Balance: Paid Time Off (PTO), employee discounts, and a positive, supportive team culture.
