Job Description

Provides assistance to the medical staff in the application, maintenance and removal of casts, traction and other splint or motion device as ordered. Informs patients/families, staff and students about the use and care of casts and traction devices. Shriners Portland is looking for a full time Cast Tech to join the team!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs direct and indirect patient care activities within the scope of practice of an Orthopedic Technician and the Outpatient Clinic (OPC) standards of care.

  • Performs casting and traction services under the direction and supervision of an Attending Orthopedic Surgeon

  • Demonstrates open, accurate and timely communication with patients/families and interdisciplinary team members to ensure effective therapeutic intervention. Maintains competency, adheres to standards of practice, recognizes own learning needs to maximize professional development and optimal patient care

  • Prepares patient for application of orthopedic devices, removes plaster/fiberglass as ordered by the physician.

  • Demonstrates competency in the application, removal, maintenance, modifications of cast, splints and traction.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED

  • Orthopedic Cast Technician Program

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certificate Medical Assistant

  • 1 year Orthopedic Technician

  • 1 year related work experience

The pay range for this position is $19.97 - $29.95. Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
