Position Overview
This position is located in the Children's Services Section.
Examples of Duties
This social worker is a neutral facilitator, of child and family team meetings, who promotes communication between agency staff, families and their identified support persons and service providers. This social worker is responsible for introducing and explaining the meeting goals, process and ground rules to meeting participants. This social worker will guide discussion of the family's strengths, needs and reason for agency involvement and steer the meeting participants toward group consensus regarding recommendations for the family. The facilitator will ensure that each meeting participant leaves the meeting with a written summary of the recommendations.
The Child and Family Team Meeting's focus is on assessing and identifying safety resources for children, identifying possible alternatives to placement of children outside of the home, identifying and assessing progress on services needed by children and families, developing a family services agreement with the family and assessing if removal of the child from the home is necessary to ensure safety. Child and Family Team Meetings are held at the agency and at offsite locations
This social worker is responsible for scheduling the Child and Family Team meeting with the family's assigned social worker, preparing the meeting location, preparing meeting summaries for distribution to all meeting participants and preparing monthly reports that document meeting statistics (such as quantity and quality of meetings, type of cases involved in meetings and the reasons for meetings).
This social worker is not assigned to manage cases involved with investigations, in home services or foster care on a regular basis; however this social worker may be required to assist with case management duties or provide case management to support service delivery as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; OR Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative (Child Welfare positions only); Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year of directly related experience; OR a Master's degree in counseling in a human services field and one year of social work or counseling; OR a Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years of directly related experience; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. Directly Related Experience is defined as Human Services experience in the areas of case management, assessment and referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy and treatment planning.
Applicants may qualify for a work against appointment with a certain degree of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices, and their application to complex casework, groupwork, and community problems. Considerable knowledge of a wide range of medical, behavioral, and/or psychosocial problems and their treatment theory. Considerable knowledge of family and group dynamics and a range of intervention techniques, governmental and private organizations, and resources in the community, laws, regulations, and policies which govern the program. General knowledge of the methods and principles of casework supervision and training. In certain settings, considerable knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes and their treatment as they relate to decisions regarding clinical interventions and appropriate therapies based on medical or psychological diagnosis. Skill in establishing rapport with a client and in applying techniques or assessing psychosocial, behavioral, and psychological aspects of client's problems. Ability to supervise, train, or instruct lower-level social workers, students, or interns in the program. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of case load and their families, as well as civic, legal, medical, social, and religious organizations. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively.

The employee in this position will be operating motor vehicles for Cumberland County and shall have a valid North Carolina Drivers License.
