Job purpose

Skilled Carpenters and Assistant Foreman demonstrate advanced carpentry skills, site coordination, monitoring activities and safety of other workers. Must take on more of a leadership role in the absence of higher-level supervisor and train new employees. Construct and review building framework and structures and communicate with supervisors daily.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Follow all Colt and site-specific safety procedure at all times!
  • Follow and execute directions given by Foreman and Site Superintendent
  • Communicate with supervisors.
  • Create a cut list from the given R.O. and wall sections.
  • Demonstrate basic plan reading skills while continuing to develop advanced plan reading skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to set up and motivate others to work productively.
  • Complete understanding of stair and roof framing
  • Eliminate issues in production before they become problems.
  • Anticipate tomorrow’s work and set up for it.
  • Rough idea of materials and equipment needs.
  • Train carpenters and new employees
  • Execute production plan.
  • Run crew in absence of Foreman.
  • Understand, demonstrate, teach, and implement a complete safety plan for the job.
  • Actively work to increase job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.

Working conditions

Full-time position, requiring a minimum of 40 hours/week - often weekend work may be required, essentially whatever it takes to get the job done. Environmental factors depend on job location but may include extremely cold, extremely hot, and humid conditions in an effort to meet client expectations. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and sometimes at extreme heights.

Essential Function requirements

  • Prolonged periods standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Must be able to walk from the ground level to the top level of the project, sometimes this can be 5 flights of stairs or ladders.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to safely work with sharp tools or power equipment.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains.
  • Must have manual dexterity, a good sense of balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination.
  • Must be able to use all tools of the trade, hand, and Power.
  • Must be able to work together in a team environment.
